http://www.thestardock.com seems to calculate 18 servers with 161 games, though most of those games are from 2010, running for hundreds of days, while appearing to list only about 11-servers. Is everybody closing up shop or has the TWGS community converted over to the pending revision or what? Also has the prior attempt to create an expandable multi-server universe been killed or is that still in the works? Also is the price for the revised version of TWGS really going to be over $300 for a 100-node version with multiple games? Just trying to get a handle on what is going on with the future of TW, thank you. |

Microbot can now script the HVS version of TradeWars, and I actually found 5 of these still running http://microblaster.net/Servers.aspx?type=hvs Now to tackle the BBS version. |

I have a list of 80 or 90 BBS's that have various versions of the game running if you need a starting point. |

I haven't had time to veryify all of the servers added from Scrat's list have a running copy of TradeWars, but I did remove all the dead ones. I'm now showing 37 TWGS and 78 BBSs for a total of 115 Servers. Microbot is now able to script the BBS version of tradewars, but I have to create user accounts and login scripts for each BBS. This takes a lot of time, so give me a shout if you would like to assist. |

I'm slowly working toward providing better tracking of server and game activity. I can currently tell how many TWGS v2 servers are active on the net. And registered v2 servers can submit their games to Jumpgate, though that is in a very fledgling state at the moment. Once it's as good as Micro's and Eleq's list sites, I'd expect it to get more use. What I can tell from the data I'm tracking so far (activation and once-daily update check) is that this month there have been 76 active servers, 67 active this week (Sunday to Saturday), and today there are 26 active servers. I'm planning to keep track of number of players as well, so I'll be able to report the total and unique (by IP) players per day and per month. I'm also going to track the actual days of up-time, as well as months of activity over the lifetime of a server. I plan to provide this info on the Jumpgate site. Who knows what it will ultimately show, a continuing active community or an eventual decline into death, but I've always wanted to track this kind of data and I finally have that ability with v2. |

Oh, and to answer the question about total cost, my initial goal was to create a very low cost entry point for the server, but I eventually decided that it was a legitimate complaint that the cost to max out the server was too high. Previously, the cost to max out the server was $80, but the minimum cost to get started was $40. Now the minimum is $10 (free if you can live with 1 slot and 1 connection). I decided to allow ops to max out the server for a total of $100, since I do want to make the larger public sites less common. There are too many relative to the player community as it is. You can actually max out your game slots or connections independently, and there's no penalty in the cost based on when you buy. So I think that'll be simple, flexible, and a good value. |
