Is there a way to access the TWGS console while TWGS is being run as a service?

Or is it required to stop the service, open TWGS manually, make changes and then restart the service?

This is a know issue with Windows 7 and Vista. If you are running XP, the console is accessable when running TWGS as a service. You can do almost everything from remote administration, by telneting into the admin port. If you need to do something that is not in remote administration though, you would have to un-install the service, and run TWGS manually.

I never understood the run as a service option. Is there some advantage I don't know about? I run TWGS as a Startup Program and it starts automatically when the computer reboots, plus the shortcut I use I added minimized so it drops to the tray and it available if needed in console mode. Just wondering.

It just allows you to run the server without actually having to log on as a user. I would run it this way if it didn't break the console. Starting with Vista, MS decided that services aren't allowed to interact with the desktop.

Ah ok, I always have mine to auto-login so it's never been an issue, but I understand now though.... thanks.

I think there are really two solutions to this issue. One is separating the ui from the core process. That's not trivial, though I'd love to do it. The other, which is more doable because I can do it a little at a time, is to add all of the most important features to the remote admin connection. So if there are features you need that aren't currently available, let me know.

The biggest thing for me that's missing is the import/export TWA.

Now, would that feature need to provide a way to send a TWA and import, or export and receive a TWA, or would it simply work with existing TWA files on the remove machine, and generate TWA files on the remote machine?

Since transfering a file would be difficult, I would say "simply work with existing TWA files on the remote machine, and generate TWA files on the remote machine" for now. Maybe add file transfers at a later date.

I suppose I could implement some kind of FTP protocol.
