I certainly don't want to get in between an arguement about the merits of scripts vs. macros or being kind to newbies. But there is one thing wrong with the macro you suggest Kemper.

If you hit a sector with no figs, just mines, the first prompt is "do you wish to avoid (y/n)". In this case "a" will be ignored, "y" will avoid sector and you will warp off to sector 999. An extra enter before "ay" will take care of that possibility, but what about beacons? If there are no figs, or offensive figs, "ay" will destroy the beacon, again leaving you at a sector prompt just before sending "999". I use "m(sector)^m^mayy999^m^m" which works most of the time.

good point. I hadn'thtought of a sector with mines, but no figs. The beacon issue I had thought of, but it is rare to find a sector with no figs but a beacon. However, both of those things will screw up the macro I sent. A potentially worse problem with your macro is if you enter a sector with no figs, no beacon, but a federal. You will send ay to attack him, y for that you are sure, then hit him with 999 figs, after which he will kill you. How about:
"m"||hop||"^many9999^m^m"
I think that would be fool proof.
the n after the a would take care of mines no figs, beacon no figs, and would also keep you from attacking a federal. A comletely empty sector should be ok, also. You would still be susceptable to someone making a corbo bomb second in the list, but that would be extremely unlikely.

Heh better but keep thinking .. remember that you can use many many many keys in your makro "DPMLSRWNQCXITUJB!ZAEFGHKOYV" would be a good set of them .. :) ..
I can tell you this .. Kemper probably knows a perfect makro to go through any kind of sector ;) .. they can be made but they take a little thinking through .. I dont like extra ^M's anymore .. for the simple reason that if CN9 is set to space .. and there is quite a bit of stuff in the sector .. you will begin to introduce delays to the receiving end of the system ..
:)
