Extern vs Respawn Question

There is a popular server that runs extern at 9:00pm, which is creating some peculiar situations with pods. For example, I was told that you can only pod twice from midnight to midnight, that this was a hard-coded game feature, extern notwithstanding: the third time you lose your ship, you get #SD#'d, no matter when extern runs. Sure enough, I had 2 pods mothing between midnight and 9:00pm, and then blindwarped at 10:30pm and had my third pod of the day, rather than the expected #SD#! Could you please tell us exactly how many pods a player would have under the following circumstances?
Please note that extern runs at 9:00pm, and the term "respawn" is used by these players to designate midnight, when you would be able to reenter the game from a #SD# state.
(a) Player loses 2 pods between 9:00pm and midnight - does respawn give him 2 more, or is he podless until 9:00pm the next night?
(b) Player loses 2 pods between midnight and 9:00pm, does he now have 2 MORE pods to use between 9:00pm and midnight, for a total of 4 for that day?
(c) Player gets #SD#'d after 9:00pm; when he comes back in at midnight, how many pods does he have now?
I'm hoping Harley can give us the last word on this subject, since there is a lot of information going around about this atm, most of it WRONG.
Thanks in advance,
galaxi

This has often irked me as well...remember mothing sectors and then logging off before midnight so my lives woudl come back...logging in after midnight, go in, and #SD#. Please clarify.

From what I understand about it is say xturn is 9:00pm game time, You get #SD# at 8:00 pm, after xturn 9:00 pm you can reenter the game. You do not get your 2 pod a day till midnight game time,so till after midnight podded is an #sd#.

TW55, in this particular game, you cannot reenter until midnight when you #SD#, whether the #SD# happens before OR after extern. It's just that some folks are finding that when they DO reenter, they have no pods that day.
When you can enter this game seems to remain at the expected outcome (midnight); the confusion stems from when, exactly, people are getting their pods refreshed, and how many they can have per day (day being defined as midnight to midnight.)
Hopefully Harley can clear this up for us, once and for all.

A person has two pods before being #SD# between 12am day1 and 12am day2 - that's 24 hours. extern has nothing to do with pod count.

podless until 9:00 pm the next night

He has two more pods to use until extern next runs at 9 pm the next night.

That's the tricky one. He has as many pods left as he had when #SD#'d -1 for the #SD#. So if he had all of his pods at 10 pm and cbys, he can enter the game at midnight and will have 1 pod left. If he gets podded then #SD#'s at 10 pm, he can enter the game at midnight and will have no pods left.

Basically, only extern resets the number of pods a person have, only midnight allows a person to enter the game again.

whoops. i was incorrect. my bad.
[17:33] Nuss, Harley : extern has everything to do with pod count
[17:33] didaskalos: ?
[17:33] Nuss, Harley : midnight doesn't affect your available pods at all. It's all determined by extern
[17:34] didaskalos: so say
[17:34] didaskalos: extern 9pm server time
[17:34] didaskalos: u get podded 3 times before midnnight after extern
[17:34] didaskalos: er
[17:34] didaskalos: podded twice and #SD#
[17:34] didaskalos: u get back in at midnight right?
[17:34] Nuss, Harley : yes, with no pods left until 9 pm
[17:34] didaskalos: ahh
[17:35] didaskalos: so extern is the resetter of pod count
[17:35] didaskalos: but midnight is the re-entry point after #SD#
I bow to the all-knowing tw-wisdom of the #1 player. grin.

Thank you, Harley, for clarifying this very confusing issue.
Hopefully now the people in the game I often play in won't suffer any more unexpected #SD#'s. =)

yeah i think traitors site states taht at extern you get your 2 pods, then at midnight- you get your life back- so it depends if extern is before/after or at the same time as midnight right?

It behaves exactly as I stated. Midnight doesn't give you pods back, has nothing to do with pods. It only allows you to enter after you've been #SD#'d, but your pod count doesn't change. Only extern restores pods. This is the same no matter what time extern is.
