I was in a game where I went over 999 experience and decided to self-pod via corbos to get FedSafe again. Since this was a new tactic to me (I've only seen people do it in the logs, had never done it myself yet), imagine my surprise when the following occurs:
-------------
Command [TL=00:00:00]:[105] (?=Help)? : A
<Attack>
Attack galaxi's unmanned Pebble Collector (5-0) (Y/N) [N]? Yes
How many fighters do you wish to use (0 to 5) [0]? 5
You lost 1 fighter(s), 4 remain.
The other ship was booby trapped with Corbomite devices!
The console reports damages of 20 battle points!
Life Support knocked out! Energy generation shut down!
Your Corbomite Devices DESTROYED galaxi
you receive 273 experience point(s).
You have been promoted to 1st Sergeant!
you LOSE 273 experience point(s).
You have been demoted to Sergeant Major!
You rush to an escape pod and abandon ship...
Your Pebble Collector has been destroyed!
Your trusty Escape Pod is functioning normally.
For getting blown up you LOSE 82 experience point(s).
Sector 105 will now be avoided in future navigation calculations.
Excellent, you have obliterated the target!
...In fact, TOO excellent! You can't salvage anything from it!
Command [TL=00:00:00]:[105] (?=Help)? :
----------------
I think my experience at the time was around 1,098 or thereabouts, so I was very suprised to come out of this with 783 experience!
There's obviously a bug operating here; my question is whether or not using this bug is considered "ethical" or not. I see this method used a lot, but you also see mega-rob used a lot, and mega-rob used to be considered "cheating bug-use" also back in the day.
So what's the bottom line on this one? Okay to use or not?
Thanks in advance for your opinions, and please add this one to your bug list, Harley.
