How about a TWChess game? The one that captures all the King planets wins, the Corp that does this splits the kitty. No messing with experience, or who podded the most people, or who had the most friends helping them out, clear and simple, capture all the King planets.
Or you could do it this way, have no winners, but players can pay the GameOp to edit more credits in the game for them. $5USD gets them 1M Credits on a Level 1 Citidel Planet, they can pay for more if they want. $2.50USD gets them 500K Credits in the Galactic Bank, anything above that requires a planet to put cash on, so they can avoid the Federation Tax when they log on. The more money spent, the more advantage the Corp will have in the game. If anyone has a problem with this, they can pay to get more credits just like anyone else.

ROFL Orion, that's one of the best ideas I've ever heard (from the sysop's standpoint) and one of the WORST i've ever heard from the player's standpoint. Where is the challenge if someone who has too much cash in ther bank account can just BUY the game?
For those of you who want a cash-prize game with no entry fee and/or a long-term game, you can have both in the same game at the Merlin's Keep Game H. (mkeep.dyndns.org:23) They have a bunch of rules for this game, so be sure to read them carefully first. The biggest rule there seems to be no profanity. Merlin's giving away $300 to the winner sometime next year. =)

Sounds like real life to me, the one with the most money has major advantages over the others. I thought he was looking for a way to make money, and I provided one way. Maybe not the best for players that are poor, but one that can cover the cost of the server and software.
BBSes used to work like that, gave paying members more time per day and post and download credits, non-paying members had to maintain ratios for post/logon and upload/download.

All of you have some good Idea's but none of them would relly work. The only way to know if someone wins is to have a kill limit if your killed 2 times then last one standing wins. And if you dont log in at least once every 2 days then you are deleted. No exceptions no matter if you couldnt get to a comp. That would work I think. Everyone has to go solo though. No corps.

Well, see that is what I figuring... Like 2.50 to 5 to enter and win a purse of like 150 or 200 bucks. But like I said I would be doing to help with the costs of keeping my systems up and running like the cable connections, and other costs. There would have to be some profit in for the sysop before I would do it... And like you said, players would be a big conncern. It would have to be at least 50 players for it to work for me anyways...
A sysop whose name I cannot remember considered a similar concept a few years ago and abandoned it, after he discovered that his ISP would rate him as commercial if he made any money, and increase his connection fee enormously.
That aside, as Harley Nuss remarked, there is so much controversy over who wins in the free games, imagine the *****ing and whining if there were a cash prize at stake.

if you look at the BOTS rules set up by Bone Collector those would be great ways to determine a winner...Because it is on a points system....I remember in one game i played i had enough cash to just sit at sd and planet bust to get over 100k exp just for S**TS and Giggles...Get a point system....get a way to determine the winner with no shred of controversy....And then when you can do that then lets get some games rolling and make some money...

This is what I was thinking. And first of all, I am not a newbie... I have been playing this game since the early 90's when I had my first computer... I know enough that corps run you down, and you should be in it for yourself. That way no one could drag you down, and second, like said, you should have a kill lockout. But I see this topic is getting way out of hand, so I will just abandon it from here. All I know is one day I plan to do this (No-Time soon) and it will work with the ideas I have...

It's a poor shame that you didn't heed 1 peice of advice given. If you weren't open to suggestions, why did you ask for them?
Don't waste our time in the future please.

All you need is to have an impartial 3rd party deciding victory, it wouldnt hurt to have a death limit in the game also. Use a system similar to the Trade Wars League or have it a League sanctioned game and let the league decide the winner.

All the advice I was basically given was that I am a newbie, and that "basically" I don't know what I am talking about and that this won't work. I am open to this type of critisim (all is welcome), but like I said this is just an idea in the works for now, and I don't even know if I would have time to pursue something of this scale, because I do have another life outside of TW. I will consider some of the ideas here, and implement some of my own as well, and I will let people know via the forums if and when I ever go thru with this and what my plan will be. As a matter of fact, I might even have co-ops help with this via other TWGS servers...

As Harley mentioned earlier, Pagan did run a board( Stardock Omega) where she handed out prizes to the winners--cash, swath registrations, honey baked hams etc. It was free to play though, I think she had the Mudders paying and that supported TW. Always fun games and fun edits, don't know what happened.
