What would be a good game setup for newbie's? e.x. - Unlimited turns/time vs. Turns/set time, Stock Aliens/Edited Aliens, stock ships/edited ships, etc. etc. etc? Would like to consider setting one of these up, but would like some more info before I do... Thanks!

stock game, less than 1k turns, probably a 5 hour timelimit.
Best way to learn for a true noobie-
MBBS settings, then goto advanced, with a better cfs, more range on colt, better TPW for iss, and more cargo room for MF
Just my opinion

You definately want to make the turn limit somewhat low. 500-700 is good because it makes a game last longer. Good players will still outpace rookies, but the difference will not be drastic after the third or fourth day. The longer the game lasts, within reason, the more interest it will build for newcomers. You also want to make the universe big, 10k or so, so the new base builders won't get found as quickly. First, most newbies start as blues, which I think they should. Second, when their bases get taken, they're gonna be upset. The idea is to give them enough of a fighting chance so that they're around awhile. The longer they're in game, the more dialog between vets and rookies. This should help ease some of the pain when they get their bases invaded. Just make sure you make the corp sizes small, so several vets don't team up and run over the newcomers. I like to see three man corps in games targeted toward new players. Invite a few veterans to join up with 2 rookie players and try to take their team to victory.
Another thing I like for these type of games is a ban on Offensive scripts. All killing, at least online kills, must occur at the keys. No macros, no copy/paste, and no scripts for attacking.
Planetary trade should be about 70%, port regen 100%, 3-4 day bust clearing. I'm against ship and planet edits as I think new players should first become familiar with the classic/normal game before being exposed to edits.
I think I speak for most of us when I say... We'll do whatever we can do to get more people playing, so let us know if we can help.

Heres what I did...
I made two games. Both 5000 sec, 1000 turns, and 2 hour time limit. Both at MBBS options. Both are closed games. Newbies must request an account (I did this to help limit access and to screen players). One game allows helpers, the other does not. I will try this for now, and go from there later on...
Thank you for the info...

Er, one more thing... You may have better success drawing new players if you don't call 'em newbies, newbs, etc. Kinda like naming your low-income grocery store "Grub for Bums." It fails to appeal to its target audience. Try referring to new players as "New Players," or maybe inexperienced players.
Just a thought.

Hmm you may be right, but not with me, when i was called a noob, newbie, etc (some still call me that heh) i took it to mean a good thing, like a pleeb. Yea the new or unexperienced player that get kicked around some, instructed, podded, setup, made fun of, but knows he/her is being hazed in to the fraturnity known as tw2002. but not everyone is weird, and insane as me.

Just wanted to toss in a few cents-
1k turns, 2hours, no helper.... do the math
Colonizing 500 turns by hand, will take 2 hours
I'd either raise the time limit, or lower the turns...

Thanks for all the posts. I will keep these in mind for the next time I bang those games, which will probably be pretty soon if I don't get players for those games by the time the truce ends... [:)]
