Although I recognize that playing solo in an established game is a bad idea, what would be the best ship for a solo player, all things being equal?

I remember that back int he day, the Starmaster provided the best cash vs. defensive ratio, but I am unsure if this is true today. If not, what might the best one be, assuming that you are working with normal ships, not edits.

It depends..... you play red or blue when solo?

when I solo, I always go red, travel around in a havoc, sleep in a maxed CFS (meager protection against a loaded ISS if am found, but better than a maxed havoc) and keep two or three ColTs for SST....

I can't imagine soloing blue, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but an ISS is the ship of choice......

In a stock game for a blue the ISS is best ship to use.

The two ships I have seem to have any luck with, unedited of course, are the Starmaster and the Iss. As far as functionality, it depends on what your looking for.

It was always my belief that the MERF is the best ship for trading, if this is true, why not for SSMing for early REDs? It seems to me that CFSs just aren't effective uses of turns. The only reason I'd want the CFS is for T-warp but I dunno, haven't been playing that long, it just doesn't make TOO much sense to me, if you cloak, defence capabilities dont really matter that much does it? I know T-warp is a big factor but other than that, why not simply kick it in a MERF for a while?

Best ship turns wise and earning potential for an early red is a merf.. 2 turns per warp in an unedited game.. you then move up to a colt for sst as you gain exp. keep a CF around to sleep in.. claoke out in fedspace.. secure the backdoor to stardock and you will do good.

First off, you shouldn't ssm unless you have a 1 turn/warp ship, or are broke and just need a few credits for a second ship. Secondly, after one day of SSTing, starting in mf's, you should need ships with more holds. If I'm playing solo, I'll normally start with 2 mf's, then sell one for a corp flag, and sst between it and the mf, then when, I have money (and enough turns for it to be useful, I get a colt to sst with my corp flag, then another colt. In the end, I will have the corp flag to twarp places with, and haul ships if I need to, and the colts to cash in.
