Are there any set odds on being blown up when you destroy a planet? I know the colos can cause it, so is there a minimum number required before it "should" happen? I blew up a planet that had approx 4,500 (or 4.5 mil depending on how you look at it) colos on it and went up with the planet. Really don't want to see too many of the "GOT BLOWN UP TOO!" messages with my name attached. [:)]

The more colos, the more likely it is to happen. I'm unsure of the extact odds. It's possible to survive with 4500 colos on the planet, and possible to die with just 1. I normally kill off the colos first just to be sure.

They also could defuse the bomb. Or at least they used to be able to do it. A friend of mine with the handle Asmodeus tried to blow up one of my planets with a lot of colonists on it and the colonists defused the atomic detonator. He told me that I had good people because he tried it many times and each time they defused the bomb. I was able to recapture the planet and put more figs on it. Lucky for him he didn't get blown up with the planet. :)

In addition to colonist levels, the citadel level of the planet is also important. The higher the citadel, the more likely the you are to be blown up with the planet (assuming there are colonists... as it does take at least 1 colonist to blow you up).

Colonists are sometimes able to defuse the detonators. In the past 3 or so years of playing, I've seen it happen only once. Of course, that's probably because I don't normally ZDY nice level 6 planets with tons of colonists on board.

If he tried many times and every time they defused it, I would guess it was planet 2 and the game was set to have an invincible ferrengal.

That could very well be it, I usually was the one who captured Ferrengal in his game. 9 times out of 10 I walked right into it early in the game and found it before anyone else did. :)

Rather than blow up planets, if level 4 or above I warp them away, if level 3 or below, I strip the colonists off of them and leave the planets in for the owner to find them. Just ask Grazhoppa about that, Simon and I stole the colonists off of his planets in one LoTR game. He was broadcasting over the FedCom "Return the colonists or suffer!" :) It was quite funny now that I think about it. Ah yeah, brings back memories.....

Thank you for the information - never thought about a single colo being enough to cause me to blow up also. Normally I would strip the colos from the planet, but I was low on moves and figured the other corp would be coming online. A lvl 1 really doesn't seem worth getting blown up for though.....

Buy some gtorps and play Planet Roullette with them. :) That is what I do instead of blowing up planets, and it is a fun game.

Say the planet limit is 5 per sector, and they have 5 level 1's in that sector that you stripped off most of the colonists from and the other corp is about to log on and take their turns. Drop about 5 gtorps in that sector and run. At extern it will say "Unstable mass detected in sector 1234" and people will go there to check it out. That is unless they blow up the 5 extra planets and create NavHaz, the gift that keeps on giving. Simon and I pulled that on Grazhoppa and he went for destroying the 5 extra planets and then got podded by NazHav later on as he was trying to recolonize and rebuild his planets. If you have the time and money, drop 10 more gtorps and watch as they try to deal with the extra planets. [}:)]

I'm a lowly newb, but this has actually recently happened to me, I do believe that the more people are on the planet, the more likely they are to defuse. In a game I'm playing there's a lvl 1 planet with a maxed out 3M colos, I tried detting it over 10 times and each time they defused. So, I might be wrong but I do believe the amount of colonists is a factor.

yes, giving them the alternative of navhaz or possible blown up planets is fun, but for those who maybe dont know, if you want to just blow up the planets rather than give them the choice of navhaz, just pop 1 more than max in the sector. if the max is 5, and they have 5 planets, pop just 1 making it 6. then you are guaranteed of atleast 1 planet getting popped, and 5/6 odds that two of his planets will get popped. if you pop 5 more planets making it 10, you have only 50% chance of popping one, and even worse odds of popping two, nevermind the fact that you might just collide your own planets only creating some annoying navhaz.

Yeah but they can log in and adet the extra planet and create 10% NavHaz before extern runs.

I do not use my own planets, just gtorps, so they are empty planets. It also tells everyone where their sector is in the daily log if they don't adet them all.

If max is 5
and you make 6
Ur not guaranteed anything
Truth is your never guaranteed..
Different ppl view it differently..
some say that 11 is a trigger number, some say 10 is a trigger number, some say double is the trigger value, I say double + 1 is the best value
so if max is 5
U want 11
6 planets in sector means U might go a whole month without collisions, the farther above max you go the higher the % comes, then it seems to just reach 100% (+/- random factor)

Yeah which is why I usually drop 10 gtorps in addition to their 5 planets, which makes a max of 15 of them. Thanks for the explaination Doctor Who. I figured it was the more planets, the more likely one of them goes boom at extern.

The "An unstable mass was detected in sector 1234" will get the attention of the other players to check it out and cause more damage. ;)

ah, i knew that it wasnt 100% chance of collision each day, should have figured there was some sort of formula. even though u might get 100% chance collion with double plus 1, the odds of colliding there planets still becomes worse, i guess its maybe just preferance (but if dr. who says he does double plus 1, that is what i will do) :)
