I always maintained that they were idiotic. This says it far more eloquently than I ever did:

It's a matter of your personal beliefs on the necessity of a rule.
If you believe that the game can be enjoyably played with aspects
such as mega-corping or scripting, then I can see where you would
believe it just causes problems trying to stop it from happening.
However, if you believe that the game is ruined by mega-corping or
scripting, then you would feel it was worth your time to try to stop
it from happening, even if you realized it wouldn't be completely
fair. When compared to the the perceived complete ruin of a game,
inequities caused in your enforcement of certain rules becomes the
lesser of two evils.

Interesting, but not even on my level. My server is private because i firmly dislike scripts and macros, and ask my players not to use them. I registered TWGS to host a game for some friends of mine on a paintball forum, because we all enjoyed playing tradewars, but we got sick of being dominated on by people running scripts and crap on a couple other servers.

But frankly i dont see the point of the rant on that page. I layed out my $60 same as any other sysop, and its within my rights to run my server the way i choose. I dont see why the author of that article cares what rules i might choose to attempt to enforce. I agree with the main point though that they ARE unenforcable to someone who knows what theyre doing, but people on my server DO play on the honor system, because its a fun game, not to win.
