Yup, how many of you would leave what youre doing right now if working on trade wars meant you could get paid either enough to get by or what your earning now? If trade wars got serious support and was becoming a viable game, i would totlally leave what im doing to work it. If i could be a paid tester or concept manager i could devote my life toward making trade wars a success. Trade wars to me could evole into a solid, enjoyble, profitable, visual and exciting game. the engine behind Homeworld2 would be a perfect fit for a visual style of trade wars. If a visual end, a database end, and a script/html end could all be incorporated into one game we could have a huge mmorpg going. but right now its a small cult bbs game thats past its time. and dont even get me started on my multiple dimensions (diffrent servers) and open source cross platform ideas... but the question remains, who would work on trade wars if you were offered a job? (no matter what direction you think the games going). |

I would, I'd give up my job but I am currently unemployed. I'd like to learn how the game works and how to improve on it and still keep that classic game formula that everyone loves so much. Tradewars: Dark Milenium was suppost to change all that, but it got shelved for an Everquest clone: http://www.tradewars.com/ Nothing to prevent a team of programmers from developing their own Tradewars like game. Many have tried and many have failed. Yankee Trader, Tradewars: The New Era, etc seem to pop into my mind for Tradewars clones that did not make it. Then there is that open sourced web project, Black Nova Traders: http://www.blacknovatraders.net/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/blacknova I think that EIS is doing a good job with TWGS, it looks like the new release may actually fix some serious bugs and provide support for the Jumpgate. |

BBSMates did an interview with JP: http://bbsmates.com/pritchett.asp quote: Space Ghost: First let me say it was a pleasure to Beta Test and PLAY current versions. My Corporation is the only perma corp listed in the Credits for Beta Servers and we will continue to support TWGS. When will your jump gate thats included in your current software be activated? And How will it work? John: While there are not many things I intend to do with TWv3 from this point forward (just critical bug fixes), JumpGate is a feature that I definitely want to complete. Actually, the basic functionality has been ready for a long time. I've been wanting to implement more features, but haven't been able to find the time. So I'm going to go ahead and open it up as a basic, automated game listing system. That should get the ball rolling. After that, it can begin to evolve. The bare bones system will basically allow you to select what games to publish on the JumpGate site, and it will post details about the game to the site. This will work very much like other TW list sites like Micro's list that some of you might have seen. I originally had the idea from conversations with him, and he worked on the early details with me. One of the major problems with running TWGS is getting people to your games, and for players, finding the games. I've sold about 2000 servers so there are a few out there, yet most game lists only have a few. JumpGate would bring all of those active games together into one gathering place. Players can scan for games based on particular settings, etc. And probably most importantly, this site can be posted to online game sites to attract new players and to make old players aware that the game is still actively played. Sort of like Google or Yahoo for TWGS games, you can search for the game you want and find the server to play it on. But I am just guessing based on the BBSMates interview. Let us hear from EIS Staff for the details of it. |

I would quit my job working for a major credit card to work on the support end of Tradewars... While i don't have good programming skills my abilities to create a solid game support structure and business models is uncanny. Take me as I am... life is just that fun! |

Hey we could all incorporate and create our own TW type program if EIS isn't hiring. Only problem is coming up with the money to do so. Hire some of the TW experts as consultants to see how game play should be, but make sure that it isn't exactly like TWGS to avoid legal troubles. If we can afford it, liencse Tradewars from EIS, so they get some money too. Create the server and the client. Make the server Telnet text based, but have the client with a GUI that changes based on the text messages. Make reg codes for the server and client. With Telnet text anyone could use any Telnet program to play it, but those with the GUI will have an advantage and ease of use. Work with helper companies to get alternative helpers written, and to create plug-ins and alien AI modules for the game. |
