Hello everyone,

I have some experience in playing blue but are pretty new in playing red. I've learned to SST using the script in Swath and know the formulas explained on the site TW-Cabal. To learn how SST works I first entered a game which had a steal factor of 100% (which I thought about later).

Now I'm in a game with a steal factor of 150%. In a corp flagship with 175 holds in this setting I need 7850 experience points. Now my problem is that even starting with 9000+ my experience constantly drops. I get busted too often and loose too much experience. I tested with 2 Havocs which worked fine, but with 65 holds it isn't worth the effort.

Now my questions: Is there something I do wrong? Should I turn blue because the steal factor is too high for earning credits the red way? (Rob factor is also 150). Is there a general rule from which number the steal/rob factor is too high to play red?

Thanks.

Have you checked the settings that swath uses for the ssting? IIRC it is under game options/variables make sure that swath is using the correct settings when trying to sst.

As to the second question the answer is going to be depends on the edits.
Is it a turn game? Then yes it could be a "blue" game
Is it a large or small universe with busts cleared once a week? Then it could be a "blue" game. (you might reach the point that if there is no other reds busting at ports you will be wasting time/turns finding a good port to rob/steal at.

There is no real general settings that can describe it as a red or blue game as each has there strengths and weaknesses. People have tried to set steal delay to an unbearable value and also have tried to slow down scripts by using a move delay but most of the time all it does is p*** people off and they wonder why no one plays. IMHO.

Sounds to me like the edits are blue oriented, and most importantly, trying to keep your exp at the level your trying for is just luck.
Some games you ride at 5,000 exp, others at 13,000 exp. It's all in that general range, and is best to play games that offer you the largest percentage of full hold stealing as possible.

I am not saying that it is impossible to thrive in the settings you describe, just difficult. Perhaps you should try your hand at an easier setting, although I applaud your effort in the edits you describe.

Thanks for the hints. It is a turn limited game and the universe has 15.000 sectors. Now I also looked at bust clearing, it is every 7 days. So it looks to me in this game going red is the wrong direction, at least for me. I now tried SST in another game with a steal factor of 100% which worked fine. So my SST seems to be okay but I can't handle it with these setting. So I will turn blue in that game, and next time I know better what to look for before I decide if I want to play blue or red.

Thanks again.

Just a last note. I write this in case someone reads this who has run into the same problem, turned red in a game which is better played blue and then want to turn blue again. The solution can be found at the site of TW-Cabal in the tips section number 23. I used my remaing turns to earn some credits and then went to stardock in a cheap Havoc. I typed "U" to get into the underground but always used the wrong password. After a few attempts they murdered me at last. I can read it from the logs and can see in the High Score that experience und alignment is set to 0. Tomorrow I can get back to the home area, upgrade a port which is usefull anyway and then I'm a goodie again. - I write this just in case someone reads about the problem and wants to know the solution.

Better yet would have been to put your cash in the bank hide your havoc somewhere safe and to buy a scout to get murdered in would have saved you a little bit of cash for start up the next day.

Assuming these were stock edits.
