Why bother with a carbo ship? Just buy a merchant freighter and 10 fighters, port and attack sd get podded and do it again quickest and cheapest way to lose exp. don't do it more than twice though

Good point, animal. I think you lose 10% of your exp either way.

LOL it's not 10% x 2... it's .9 * .9. So if you have 1000 exp, you now have 810 exp.
Thing is, if you do the 50% as a last minute #SD# you can get all 3 pods in...
.9 * .9 * .5 = .405. So 1000 exp becomes 405 exp.
Of course you also lose half your alignment doing that, so you need to make sure you're commissioned first and that you have a clean path to dock. Otherwise you can get stuck having to do all this over again... or stuck out of the game.
If you do it right all you need to do is xport back to your main ship (you get #SD# right before extern in a cheap ship, putting your main ship outside of fedspace... but not too far off), mow to dock, re-apply to fix your align, go back and grab and sell your scout and voila.
Blitz, all of this may sound way confusing. But that's because it is confusing, completely. Even for those that have played this thing for years, it may not be a completely new thing... but there are a lot of little nuances that can be done to improve efficiency and make this cheaper and safer. So that's the way we tend to get things done around here... not from one person, but by several people sharing their experience and coming up with a good solid plan that works from lots of different angles.
Definately a lot of good info in this thread so far.

I stated no inaccuracies.
50% IS greater than 10% x 2.

To reduce exp, self podding is the way to go. As an example, if you have 2240 exp and self pod twice, your exp ends up at 995 - you lose 1/3 exp each time, doing it twice in a row means your final exp will be 4/9 (approx 45%) of what you started out with. Blowing yourself up by attacking dock twice would leave you at 81% of original exp, in this example, 1814 exp. Note that BOTH 4/9 and 81% are averages, the actual end result has a slight random deviation, but not significant.
For exact numbers, to ensure that it will work 100% of the time:
Buy a personal Scout, put 3 units of corbo on it. Buy a merf, corp or pers, doesnt matter. Put 10 figs on it. Tow the scout with the merf to a sector beside stardock. Attack the scout with 10 figs. You end up in a pod at stardock with 1/3 exp gone. You can do this twice per day if you have not been podded before on that day. Use a different sector beside dock the second time to avoid the navhaz you made the first time. You will not lose any alignment points.
Trust me, I've been a fedsafe coward for many years.

Hm... wanted to go over this. So I tested it.
Dock death 1:
Had 1000 exp.
lost 25 exp for getting blown up on the port
lost 97 exp for getting podded
Had 10000.
Lost 25 for getting blown up on the port
lost 997 for being podded
Corbo death. I had 10k exp.
I received 2500 experience and was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer???
Then I lost 2500 and was demoted to Ensign?? (these ranks make no sense)
Then I lost 750 for being podded.
Those were different accounts on my test server, so no #SD# to factor in.
Looks like you lose a lot more getting podded on corbo. But the promotion bit makes absolutely no sense. I was well over chief warrant officer, and the end experience was 6750 exp, which is 67.5% of initial. So I definately didn't actually gain the 2500 exp.

I did it from telnet, didn't make a capture. Guess I could do it again...
Edit: And yea, it's not exact.

Oh. Doh. Lol. Well I got a cap if you want it. It's pretty non-eventful.

There's one more way to get a comission if the game has internal Ferrengi and they have deployed toll or def fighters. Get yourself a scout and load it with fighters. Find a sector with ferrengi figs and attack with 25 fighters - this will gain you +1 exp, +2 alignment, and some bounty cash. You can attack with more fighters, but the bounty is somewhat random and multiple small attacks will give you a better average. If fighter prices are low and you can find enough Ferrengi fighters you should have no problem. Note this method can be used in conjunction with any of the other methods mentioned.

that can be very turn inefficient however (thereby becoming more expensive than the other methods)
