solo gridding save yourself
trying to secure a small piece of the universe, as a solo player, can be an extremely dangerous occupation. About all that is available is passive gridding, because you have no backup/save me running. I think this is a work around... not so much a safe way to hit enemy figs but a type of "save me" hehehe "save yourself".
Here it is:
always keep 1 gtorp, 1 adet, and a bunch of cols. onboard your ship. grid away and when your ptorp'd and it looks like the enemy is likely to close in for the kill... do this!
make a planet, land, drop colonists into a catagory. next, either wait for enemy to enter sector and Adet the planet or adet the planet immediately. either way your podded and the pod scoots away... if your lucky, the enemy will know your on the planet and they will macro an Adet themselves, podding themselves and you.
You can't blow a planet with cols ... you get blown up too.
now that is a drastic strategy and one i would hope not to use... better to not get ptorp'd in the first place. So, use a cheap ship and a minor amount of figs... ya can lose them without a worry. But, the enemy will be rolling up in "Almighty Force" and it would be nice to "do them in" (no turns, just a planet/adet/cols.)
lol... what a great game!!!

Re: solo gridding save yourself
ok, that was theory.
i went over to toyland script test game, and tried to make it happen, without success.
curious, because it has happened to me by accident, during a game and that is how the idea came to me.
I used 1 col... no podding, 20 cols, no podding, 75 cols, no podding.
hmmm... alright you top guns why did it not work? when it worked a few yrs. ago during sector cleanup (i quickly adet'd a planet with cols. and was podded) Is there a toggle in twgs that allows / disallows this technique?

Re: solo gridding save yourself
if that won't work .... this will.
as a solo player, your not out to grid half the universe... most of your turns are spent cashing and coling. But, when you want to get out there and grab another 20 sectors or a particular port off the enemy, you can for sure do this:
your in a corp ship, you tow a corbo bomb (personal, no figs, no shields and enuf corbo to blow you to hell) next you start to grid with your bomb in tow suddenly your ptorp'd you attack your own corbo bomb and the bomb destroys your corp. ship... now you in a pod. that pod will flee... at least one sector away... maybe further along a safe route. you can induce the pod to flee a great distance if before you hit the important sector your trying to steal... transport to a safe ship first, which is say... 10 sectors back and in a secure spot next trans back into you grid ship, tow the bomb and go for the gridding of the important sector. your ptorp'd, you attack your bomb, your podded, the pod flees... probably back to the safe ship sector.
this is a variant use of the self pod technique.

Personally, I prefer solo to being in a corp... But then again, I prefer a lot of things in this game that others (most others by my estimates) disagree with. Thanks for the ideas CC...

Traders on a Corp: 6,
Check the V screen. There are few solo games and those are of the old school time limit casual type or DM's.
