i know this has been done to death, but the posts are buried.
for all you newbs and returnee's:
I will start it off and everyone jump onboard.

Red to Neutral/Blue:
1.) you have large red alignment and experience... you want to return to neutral/blue
- go to the dock, to the underground, repeat wrong password, through beatings then finally killing by door guard
- you return after xtern with 0 alignment and 0 experience.
2.) your on a corp, you are small red, your Red partner has high exp/align, partner wants you blue for coling
- your red partner lays personal figs and you hit them until your alignment goes blue, your exp stays the same.
3.) you are small red and want to go blue, you upgrade ports to increase align and exp, continue until blue.

Blue to Red:
1.) everyone knows this one... your at terra with 0/0 and want to go red, you upgrade a port to go positive alignment, grab cols.
and dump them into open space... you get -1 alignment for every colonist jettisoned. (need at least -100 align).
2.) you are big blue and want to go red, you grab a cheap ship and "cby", you come back after xtern with 0 exp/-10 align
!!important!! land on terra or port, get your bearings, you need to upgrade a port to go neutral/blue, or xport/twarp out of fed
3.) your blue corpie lays personal figs, you hit them until your red
4.) your at the dock, you have 0/0 and want to go red, port at the dock, go to tavern, curse the grimy trader and recieve -1 align
leave tavern and start busting planets to increase exp/neg. align
5.) one of my favourites as a solo player, you finished col'ing a planet with your comish and want to get into the mega rob
- kill ports, your alignment goes down, kill enough of them and your red
- make sure you kill the port in one shot and pick weak ports with sub 70 defence rating (kill xxs blue trading pairs)
- this method is expensive but it keeps you in the game while you go red and bonus! your exp. increases as well

Aside from these, there is the posting contracts against red or blue players... common is: posting on red at cop shop to get comish

ok, i will add the other obvious "changer" that most new players dont know:

the self pod:
Un-Fedsafe players use this technique to lower their exp. by 1/3 but leave your alignment as is (can be used twice a day only)

1.) buy a scout and make it personal
2.) put 20 corbo devices in the scout
3.) buy a merchant freighter and make it corporate
4.) put 20 figs on the freighter
No shields ... no nothing else
5.) tow those ships to a quiet dead end
6.) all 3 ships are now in the dead end.... transport from your big Butt tow ship to the freighter (within sector)
7.) attack the scout with "ALL" 20 figs
8.) the scout explodes and the corbo destroys your freighter
9.) your in a pod... and that pod stays in the dead end with your big Butt tow ship
10.) transport back into your big Butt ship and tow the pod back to the dock... sell the pod
The result is... you have safely reduced your experience pts. by 1/3
If you require a second self poding... repeat as above... BUT !!!
Don't self pod in the same dead end as the first one... the nav haz there will kill your pod and then your dead dead dead

Its a bit cheaper - 3 corbo and 10 figs works just fine.

another (partner used today, i had forgotten about): this one get's ya close to were you want to go
- you are big red and want to go neutral/blue
- you repeatedly "Bust" the same port (write a macro and loop it) ... this is called fake bust
- it drops your experience and alignment each time you get busted, sending you closer to neutral/blue
- get's rid of a large chunk of your exp/align problem
- finish off with a port upgrade or some corpie big red figs... to go blue

Fake busting does not drop ur alignment. It only
drops your experience.

thanks Sing...

wish you top guns would step up and become dynamic teachers. i am stretching my knowledge of the game.

Got to tell you... some of the readers of my posts have asked me to teach them how to play the game. That is not my bag. I don't play Tradewars very well (compared to the likes of you and your buddies). I am an excellent strategist but feel too unskilled (as a player) to be a teacher. (Generals are not great Warriors)
The lack of teachers and a willingness (by the top guns) to "pound the piss" out of newbs, and returnee's, has created a shrinking tradewars player base. Will not be too much longer and only a small hard core group will be playing. When it get's like that not even a tw addict like myself will play.
It is not enough to say (about learning)... "That's what the forum is for".... "Let them learn via the school of hard knocks". It took me years to learn tradewars and even now I am tuned up by the more able. We need top gun players to start forming secondary corps with newbs and returnees for the purpose of teaching tw play. We need to foster a state of "inclusion" (lol, is that an alien word for a combat game?). We need a server that is dedicated to teaching tw. Each game banged will have a legendary player available within the game to demonstrate tw techniques. Important issues like setting up a keyboard for efficient game play, beam trading as opposed to ppt, data crunching to locate enemy bases and ports.... the list is long.

Just look at this classictw forum... the busiest posts are in "SMACK" !!! ---> i say "useless waste of time, space and skill"

My posts are specific and immediately useful for the newer player.
My posts encourage free thinking and creative problem solving.

You heavy hitters!!! pick up the weight!!! quit pin'in medals on your own chests!!!

Sorry boys... but some of you need your asses kicked.

Except you can't be trained on a forum. You can only learn
during play, and we already do that. During HHT, for instance,
we had a team of 15 people. The other corp did too. Some of
those people had never played a turny before.

If all you want is a general knowledge dump, most of that
info is posted on the website in my sig. It's been there for
years. Additionally, there's a search feature in this forum
for things not on the list.

If there's a specific question, by all means ask.

if i can step in here-

i was prolly the least experienced turn player on the roster for boo. i was at the keys for almost every single thing i did. the few things that i was 'botted' for? i was either at the keys or i was asked if my turns could be used. no lie- ask anyone else who played alongside boo.

to be honest, i didnt expect to get so much keytime, having read about how the a team runs the b team. i especially didnt expect to sign off on when i was botted, and that was a rare thing anyway. i think the key to this was the long amount of practice we put in, and the insane amount of prep that sing put in. i knew what i was doing the whole time. and if i knew?

i realize this is a slight thread hijack, but i feel like this is one of the key stories of that tourney and it hasnt really been told yet. everyone focused on the roller...

Nod. That's the benefit of having keytime. If you have keytime,
you can be there when stuff is done. =) There were a few people
with no KT that had their turns ran when they were AFK, but I
prefer not to do that if they're at or near keys. Can't learn to
do stuff if you're not there.

While it may be a minor derail, I've said nothing that could be
construed as smack.

At the bottom of my sig is an IRC channel. Yesterday, booger and
I, then mob and I, spent the day banging practice DMs on my new
server. It was not only good practice, but it also stress tested a
new potential server. It was pretty spontaneous, lasted most
of the day.

Why do I say this?

For people interested in learning and playing, you have to network
with other players. That's where stuff gets done, learned, shared.
Those are the areas where most training happens.

I just put 3 corbo on a scout or merf.
then attack it with 4 figs in a merf.
I am not sure but this might be rock bottom

Can't you just have a corpie lay a pers fig and
surrender off of it? Wouldn't that be the cheapest?

If you're not on a corp, attack a port?
