The one advantage of keeping a "No Bug Use" rule is that v2 is so new, when a bug is found and exploited, AND when the ops find out about it, then you can drop the hammer if anyone exploits it on your server.

The problem is that the players who have discovered these bugs aren't disclosing them.

Thats just another part of the social/psycho gray areas

When I find a bug I report it to JP and Xanos at the same time. Xanos because he's a trusted teammate and knows the mechanics of the game better than I do. Especially when it comes down to those nanosecond type maneuvers.

There will always be unreported bugs that are exploited. I think that is also a "feature" of this game that attracts players on a certain level.

I do feel however that right now the most devastating bugs in v2 revolve around the Gold Aliens. Nothing a player can do about that. I run my Ferrengi aggressive to keep the grid down and long running games lock-up the server from time to time.

Since YOU cannot obey the forum rules, how can you respect yourself? "Remove the log from thine own eye..."

Please stop derailing this thread.

Sorry, I couldn't read past your own derailing. Irony much?

The only irony is that you are behaving the same way as big d

Which is still better than the way you have behaved.
Just remember that you started the personal attacks, and then when confronted with your own wrongdoing, you run and cry, "Unfair!".
So I LOL'd.

I have a "No Bug Use" rule, but what does that really mean?

I thought shield riding was a bug, but found out later that it is set up that way by design. How is anyone supposed to know what is a bug or not?

Here's a good example. When you enter and exit a game 200 times to clear all the limpets in a sector, are you using a bug?

My rules are simple, as for bugs I state if they are unsure, ask me. That is in the announcement file in every game.

I find that my "regular" players are pointing out different things, mostly asking to check if a player is a dupe, or if I can please make the Ferrengi less mean. :) Treat your players well and they will help "police" your server. They want clean fair games, and appreciate a sysop that responds.

When I do find a dupe and delete the account, I'll update the announcement file stating that fact. I won't point fingers, but this explains why someone was in the CLV one day and gone the next.
My rules also say to ask me if you are not sure about a bug, but no-one ever has. My point is that I wouldn't know how to answer if they did. It is very unclear what a bug is, and what might be an undocumented feature.

We ran across that a decade ago with SDF.
We were able to flee without it taking any turns, so we were able to use turns just to port, and thus had a huge advantage over our competitors. It was the game mechanics at the time, but it was updated in a later version so that all fleeing takes turns.

Was it a bug? We don't know. It certainly seemed like WAI (working as intended) to us at the time. Was it an unfair advantage? That could be argued both ways- we thought that it wasn't, as we had worked hard to come up with this strategy and had to do it all by hand or macro (in the days before TWX).

I guess you could lump bug use into two categories: those that help you and those that hurt others. Most of the ones we decry are those that hurt others- the fig desync for example and the ones that help us, such as megarob. That was originally a bug and now it is a feature, right?

A big mistake IMO... It is already too easy to cash without this bug turned feature enabled.
