I haven't looked at Vega Conflict for over 9 months. I logged in today and they have completely re-designed the game using Unity player instead of Flash. I'm really impressed at the new graphics and added functionality.

What other space games do you guys play?

not many responses to this question yet, so i thought since it was asked i will answer.


"X3 Albion prelude" is top on my list.
followed by the beta of "Starbound."
"Elite Dangerous" is on top of my to do list

i don't play Space games as much as i do RPG's or other "build your empire" type of games.

I have always loved the RPG aspect of tradewars, but sad to say it is no longer on top of my list.

Galactic Empire was another good text-based game.

Nothing quite like the feeling of actually having to fly and navigate your ship while aiming and firing at enemies.

Barren Realms Elite (BRE). Been years since I've played. Wonder If its still around.

I don't remember BRE, but the name sounds familiar. I wonder if anyone has a copy of Yankee Trader running...

Amit Patel has a game programming blog called Red Blob. Pretty interesting stuff. I think he said he lost the original source to SRE/BRE years ago, but I'm sure the binaries are still floating around somewhere.

http://www.redblobgames.com/ looks pretty cool. As you know, but others may not, a simplified version of A* is the search algorithm used to calculate paths in Tradewars 2002 v3+. Older versions used less efficient algorithms, and path calculation took much longer.

Not sure if this is the correct thread for this, but that 'blog' is pretty cool.
