"Talk about anything on your mind, TradeWars or not. But please, post game playing/hosting questions in the appropriate forum, and keep the discussion civil."

We now have a locked thread, which was civil, not abusive, not inappropriate. Just one that the mod did not like and chose to censor.

Not the first time - several mods did it. K3, Helix,, dedahdedahdedah.

Anytime I complained before, the Owner unlocked it and/or removed the Moderator.

Moderator: Why did you lock a thread which was in conformance with the stated rules?

Kavanagh.

People reported some posts in that thread.
In order to keep it from getting out of hand, I closed it.
It isn't up to me to like something or not, but to keep it civil.
We aren't the government, so the first amendment does not apply to us.
Too bad some simple-minded people fail to grasp that.

Oso's actions were appropriate. If you would like to continue your argument with Big D, he lives here:

I can contact D by email, PM, phone, ICQ, smoke signals, etc. That and the 1st Amendment are not the point.

Suggest that the Banner of this forum be changed. The accepted posts are now subject to the capriciousness of the moderator(s), not as the Banner states.

D and I have seldom agreed on anything. He has complained about the moderation here from time to time. I'm with him on it.

Now Kavanagh, you have been frequenting these forums for as long,
if not longer, than me. So I know for a fact that you have seen
many occasions where Big D's passionate, monotonous theme
has drowned out the original posters' idea for a thread.

If you go back and look at locked threads, I'm sure you'll see a
trend. Locking the thread is the mildest of censorships.

But wouldn't a simpler solution be just get rid of the problem permanently? If it always leads back to the same problem, expecting a different result when he posts is just insane.

I find it ironic that a thread criticizing a moderator is still allowed to stand when the original poster is calling censorship. But that's just me and my twisted sense of humor.

If people want to fight, there is another forum to do it in. And yes, I mod there too, so keep it in the smack talk and not the open discussion section.

All the threads that I have closed have been due to posts being reported. I try to keep things civil here. If you want to post crap, use the other forum.

The original post that started the thread in question was posted by Speed Demon. Let me refresh your memories.

Sound off!
I know there’s some old timers lurking out there, let us know your there.
Stop hiding on that port!
Trader, Slim, Kemper, Psion, Coke, Speedy, OZ, and many I haven’t named?
I know not all of you have completely forgotten about this game.
*SD*

His question was answered when several members told him the truth about why those players have disappeared and then expressed the fact that those players will probably never return.

At that point a few other members decided to chime in and felt the need to disagree with the facts.

It's obvious that this game is in the pits, and it will never be close to as popular as it was before v2 was released.

As far as the problem, it's not what was said in that thread, but the fact that many aren't prepared to accept the final results.

Excellent, that says it all. You've encapsulated your point in a simple sentence.

Now, leave a tender moment alone.

Why would I leave it alone when I was blamed for getting that thread locked? I posted twice in the entire thread of 4 pages and pretty much stayed on topic. When someone asks a question or makes and incorrect statement isn't that the purpose of this forum to provide truth and correct information?

Truth is in the eye of the beholder apparently. And some enjoy the role of "Chicken Little".

This forum is information sharing and entertainment, a place for fans of the game to come together and share ideas and announce game rebangs.

Locking Big D's troll threads probably just aggravates his persecution complex.

Honestly, your comments weren't that bad. I complained, because I didn't like the direction the thread was headed. Call it a preemptive strike, because we have had this same argument thousands of times over the past two years.

Nah, not even a dozen I'd guess. Nowhere near enough for TW vets.

Seriously, the Banner needs to be changed to reflect the current Moderation Policy. The posts in the thread under discussion did not violate the terms of the Banner.

In a Totalitarian Society, it is possible to erase a thread. The ultimate censorship for them. In Western Europe and North America, the ultimate censorship is, in my opinion, to silence comment. Hardly mild.
