We have seen a lot of the same tournaments over the last few years, ICE, BOTE, HHT, Big Game. They have been staples over the years. I have an old idea with a new twist. Hear me out on this.

2 on 2 Double Elimination Tournament.
Partners will be randomly chosen each round.
Small sector game 3k-5k Universe
Small game time limit. 4-8 hours. (Extern to happen around 1/2 way point)
Unlim or High Turn.
1 Starting level 6 planet
4 Ship Types
2 planets

Published point system for ties
Other ideas that have been put out to me
* Rotating Edits every round
* Bonus round with all players
* Add aliens
* Add Wanderer Planet

Anyone have some interest in this?

I think 16, 24, or 32 players would make for a great tournament.

I'd mostly likely play, depending on timing -- the only challenge for me is that something like this is very time committing because it's short -- you can't really be afk during an 8 hour game, and if you have RL things to do on the day of your game, you're out of luck.

I like the idea of a multi round tournament and I like the idea of changing edits every round. What about making the games a little longer, like 48 hours? It gives more opportunity for strategy versus "the first one to surround dock wins".

I'd also suggest unlim versus high turn because if a foton takes you out for the game, it could be over very quickly. if you can potentially get a pod picked up, that makes it more interesting.

You are right on the 8 hours. I was really thinking more like 2-4 hours. Low time investment. Maybe each round increases in time with the final game (or 2) end up with a 2-3 day limit. Still a work in progress. Want to get interest first before I dedicate a bunch of time to it.

I don't usually play unlimited/high turn games but the short time frame makes it interesting. Also I agree there might be time/scheduling issues as Shadow suggests.

Perhaps the players can decide on a time they are all available? i.e. you have a X time days to play your match; agree or it auto starts on X date. I know that'd be some work for the Sysop.

TBH: I got your email and some thoughts but am just sooooo busy still and can't get distracted.

i mean I saw a hole bunch of games about to bang and I've pretty much had to firewall myself from my VPS so I don't get tempted.

As I get more and more feedback I do agree with scheduling.

Depending on how many people play the first couple of rounds will be short, 2-3 hours. Most can find time to commit 2-3 hours (heh we all do it day one and 2 of most tournaments). This will be for the winner and loser bracket. The loser bracket will stay at this the entire time until the winner of the loser bracket plays the winner of the winner bracket. The final games will be extended somewhat, just not sure how much. Thinking 48 hour.

Games will rotate every round. Games I am considering:

SubZero with aliens
Moo2
Pirates
BattleStar (Probably the final game)
