I agree that duping is cheating, HOWEVER...

When I first set up my server, one of my friends began duping to play two games at the same time. At first I was horrified that he would do such a heinous act! But since my server is just starting up, and it's summer, I figured I would just be happy that I was getting two nodes used instead of only one. Besides, he's helping me test.

After a while it occurred to me that this type of duping isn't cheating, and if the honor system can be maintained then there shouldn't be any problem with this. Not everyone is a teenager with time on their hands.

But then there's that "honor" thing. I don't think this will work long-term because there will eventually be some jerk who wants to cheat!

Its not duping if they are in two different games on your server. I have many people who play in 4-5 games on my server at the same time. Playing two accounts in the same game is duping and will get you a life time ban if i catch you which i'll admit is hard to do unless you are stupid about it.

There are some games that actually call for a
dupe; Dupe chess comes to mind.

I think we've covered that anyone who would
start a second account to 'dupe' another player
onto their team is a player whose weakness will
show regardless. It's as close to clear cut
cheating as you can get in tradewars.

I'm in a situation now where I have to contact
sysops since my son (10y/o) is showing an interest
in that game dad disappears to check on...
Two players with the same IP is highly suspect.

I'm glad to hear this! I didn't think what he was doing was cheating, but it was hard to deny that he was "duping." Thanks for the clarification!

I have no problem with this either as long as i can verify it.
I have atleast 3 different people who share IPs
