To properly install software , let its installer choose the path or it must go into the Root directory structure : C:/ directory style , not on the desktop , the desktop is for short cuts. That leads to bigger problems. I suggest C:/DownLoads for anything you download and C:/UnZipped for anything you unzip. So TWX would probably end up in C:/UnZipped/TWX_Proxy I'd like people to expand on this, having read the source I didn't see where choosing to put your TWX Proxy in C:\Users\Kaus\Desktop\TWX vs. C:\ is of any significant issue. Vid and others elude to scripting issues that could arise later but I haven't seen any during my limited scripting past. Can someone (EP maybe?) definitively produce the type of issues we could see by placing TWX on the desktop with shortcuts. Historically I have helped people with install's and I certainly don't want to contribute towards the "Blind leading the Blind" if installing outside the C:\ is detrimental. |

It's just messy with all the files. I don't think he is referring to running it from within a folder on the desktop since that will cause "NO" issues. I just prefer running everything from a certain folder "C:\TWX" "C:\SWATH\" cause it is easier to keep track of everything. You imagine all the mombot files all over your desktop.... my OCD would drive me nuts. Of course I could be wrong on what Vid is trying to say.. |

Well I mention it because throughout the years I'e heard it brought up over and over that there is really only one way to do a TWX install. I'm interested in getting EP's and everyone's experience to see if I'm just being dense. I cant imagine people putting MOMBOT files all over the desktop, by default mombot comes in established folders to drag and drop into the TWX directory. |

As you say "with shortcuts" I have no problem with it that way because that is how the desktop was meant to be used , with shortcuts. Not the .exe |

To properly install software , let its installer choose the path or it must go into the Root directory structure : I've heard similar statements from other scripters. I was hoping you or the unnamed scripters could provide some concrete issues you have faced during your tenure that have been the result of a desktop install. |

Most recently , an install of mombot to the twx on the desktop install. This person installed to the desktop as well as 3 other locations .. Which I did not find out till hours of debugging , and eventually I used joinme.com to get on his system to figure out the mess and correct it. Which meant to build a directory off of the c: drive and eliminate all other twx's on his system ..and now he runs scripts and mombot without any other problems. So I teach others to just make a shortcut to the desktop for your scripts folder and a shortcut to launch the twx.exe |

I can appreciate that approach and may adopt it for myself. Thank you for the insight. |

I always thought the issue was that script includes choke on directory names with spaces in them. Yes/no? |

I don't believe I've ever commented one way or another. Howerver, I can tell you that the Windows Desktop is abstracted (a variable) and can be redirected, so it doesn't have a concrete location. By itself, that could cause inconsistencies, since the path to the desktop can change (common with Windows upgrades or Domains). I wouldn't expect many people to encounter that problem, but it would be simpler and more resilient to use a concrete path like "c:\twxproxy2.5\". +EP+ |
