 TWGS Game Settings Exporter v1.10 RELEASED!

TWGS sysops, please head over to http://twgs.xiuhtec.com to download my TWGS Game Settings Exporter. This is a tool to quickly extract ALL of the relevant game settings (including many that do not show up on V/*) in a nicely formatted column format specially designed for EIS forum use. Use it to post general information about your server or as part of a rebang announcement!

The program has been tested on Win2k/XP systems and is a 1.56MB download (program itself's pretty small, but it includes the VS 2005 runtime libraries; future releases will probably include a mini version w/o the libs for those who already have them). Let me know here or via the email address listed on my website if you find any issues, you test it on a different OS and it works/doesn't work, or have any other comments/suggestions.

Edit: v1.10 is now up on the site! Quite a few changes here; text description handling works and there is a new option (which defaults active) to only display prices if they differ from stock. For those who are just updating from a previous version and are computer literate, I recommend downloading the EXE separately and overwriting the one in your installed directory (by default, "C:\Program Files\Xiuhtec Solutions\TWGS Game Settings Exporter\") instead of downloading the entire setup package.

You might want to think about putting the version number in the file name, just for easy reference.

For the zip you mean? So people know for sure which version they got? Done. I thought about it but wasn't expecting to release new versions at quite this pace so I hadn't bothered, heh. Hopefully 1.02 will be it for a while, though.

For what it's worth I would like to be the first to officially thank Xen, for sticking his build out and taking the time and effort to investigate, test, theorize, coordinate with others, and develop what is undoubtedly going to be an important aspect that will become forever inlaid into the future development of TW2002. This will surely play a roll in ensuring the continuation and advancement of TW. I would also like to highlight the effort he has put into ensuring his build will function seamlessly and aesthetically into a virtually streamlined process.

The game of TW is lucky to have players such as Xen. Also I would like to encourage others with these kind of exceptional skills to come forward and contribute towards something they find interesting within the game, whatever it maybe; the game of TW will always depend on players such as yourselves. We all know you are out there so quit hiding! [:D]

We all owe Xen an applause and our personal thanks. So I would like say thanks Xen, Bravo Zulu buddy!

I just finally got my lazy butt around to downloading and testing Xen's new program and I couldn't be happier with it. I think its very well done, easy to use and is a great source of information. I think this is a great tool for players and sysops alike. It gives sysops the ability to easily distribute the complete game information that players want, and can even output it in a handy dandy EIS-format. I hope sysops will start using it soon, it will make it much easier for us players to find the kinds of games we prefer.

Hey Xen, think you'd be up to making utilities for TW2002 v3.xx? Such as 3rd party maintaince programs, External "Rebel Forces" (little devils setup rogue fighters, act like NPCs and create planets or a corp perhaps, etc). I've had ideas for such things for TW2002 since I was still using 2002v2b8, just never really knew that much about TP or C++/C#. I still don't know alot but thats besides the point :P Anyways? If u got some free time...

Xen the Exporter is a great tool, thanks for it, I also wish there was a copy that works with PHPBB forum format too. Oh well you can't have it all.[:D]J/K But for real I wish it works as well on PHPBB forums as EIS, but atleast it does still post on the forum, just not as nice a EIS. LMAO, But really all this is one great program for the sysops to have, it saves a lot of time on having to manually go into all games and get the data yourself, it gets it all in one pass. Great work Xen!!!

Nope, definitely a real bug... sigh...

What this forum software does with whitespace is incredibly f'd up.

That's all one line, with no spaces, but it adds a mysterious space after the 60th character.  That alone wouldn't be *too* big a problem, BUT:

That second row has four spaces between each number, and god knows where the split non-breaking space codes are coming from.

That second row has nine spaces between each number, but appears to only have eight spaces between after posting (note they line up to every 9th digit above, not every tenth like they should).

That second row has ten spaces between each number, to try to correct for the above in case a space is just getting lost... nope, the non-breaking space codes are back, and MORE than ten spaces show up in some cases, to boot.

Works reasonably well with the filler, though I'd still love to know what's wrong with whitespace in the forum code. Any more than one space between words turns into a total kludge.

Not yet. Gold edits are one file format I never finished accessing, but I did get the info from John P so I hope to add that as well.

Sorry I vanished from the scene for a couple of years, but life has been crazy. I finally have more time again for my hobby (programming) and am giving serious thought to picking this project back up, if there's interest.

Laff, it's still the only app out there that does all of this... so ya, there's interest.

1873 days old? I wonder how much experience the ports would give you after that... or how evil the aliens would be. LOL.

As for spaces, have you tried pre tags or nbsp?

Well, these are the same test games I had ages ago. Some of the games were mainly set up as tests of various settings, and you can see extern hasn't even ever run for some of them. As for port XP, 50 (since it maxes there), and how evil are the aliens? Good question, lemme run extern and check..........

...not very. Highest XP is 1468, worst alignment is -355. There are a full 50 of the things though. If a game were running gold aliens that long they'd probably own the universe though, LOL.

That'd be a negative on purposefully adding nbsp's working. Code tags are similar to pre and didn't help anything. (In fact, I have to use code tags now because no fixed-width fonts are available outside code tags anymore.) Note even if I don't manually type & n b s p ; those codes show up. I think I'll just stick to the filler characters. It seems to work well enough, and this forum doesn't completely die at having a lot of black/unblack codes like the old one did. I can remove the >5 games warning, or at least modify it...it does still take a long time for the forum to render pages with a lot of codes.
