Edit: I just read that there are already rules posted but I cannot find them. Can someone point me in the right direction? I also realized that there doesnt seem to be a forum for "Forum Issues and Complaints" and this is the Technical Support Forum. Help? Cerne The following is a paraphrased set of General Rules for the Forums. I got this from a set of forums with a membership of 30k users and they work well. I think something similar to this is needed here. Then as long as they are enforced for everyone equally, this would help keep most of the people happy most of the time. Its also a good way to see if the mods are doing their jobs. Cerne ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -- [RULES] General Forum Guidelines - Please follow these guidelines or else you might end up with a warning! or even banned for repeat offenses 1. Respect other! (Be it their religious beliefs, political views, sexual preferences, races or nationalities.) This applies to users and staff alike. 2. No trashing of other peoples topics (e.g. SPAM or thread-hijacking). 3. No advertising, merchandising or promotions of any kind in the forum. 4. No double posting or bumping your own topic. And needless to say: be polite. When in doubt the staff is always right (unless we are wrong) Demanding help rarely works, asking for it usually does the trick. |

The more rules, the more things people have to whine about. |

This is not the rules. This is as he said paraphrased. This in my opinion is no even close to a good idea. This can not apply to the smack talk forum even if it were the rules. This is coming from a person that would probably rather no one post at all but him. |

Mark my words, this will force the moderators to delete more posts, which will in turn cause more problems between the users and administration (This forum admin and not EIS, two different things) History has proven that when posts start getting deleted, members will evacuate. |

Well, the fact that earth is atleast paying somewhat attention is nice, though i'm sure he'll just back his admin and nothing will change. who knows, i could be wrong, i've never really interacted with earth, and all i can judge him on are what he did to the forums (suck) and who he appointed as admins (and subsequently mods) (suck) So while he might be a great guy, his silence doesn't help his public perception. |

I am in the process of remaking the rules and trying to make sure they are easy to follow for all, and hopefully have them done soon, I am having to do a lot lately and just bear with me all, and we will have something that may work for all users and staff alike, with the rules I am working on, we all have to abide by them and make things a lot more plesant here, and hopefully end all the bickering going on, I will be posting them soon, when I get them proof read when done. Vulcan Ok Vulcan, I'll remain silent until I see the rules you are talking about. I do have one question tho. Who the is Cernnunos?, Why would his suggestions be taken into consideration while the majority of the members suggestions are ignored? This really looks funny. This forum really needs to do something about dupe member accounts instead of worrying about more rules. |

I had been working on the rules for a while now cause I looked and saw there were no real rules for the forums as it was. So I thought I would make some for all to follow, including the mods/ admin and sysops, we all need some rules and guidelines to follow. Was a matter of strange timing on cerns part. |

Ok, Cern is playing in the low turn curcuit. never seen the name bfore, but has been playing strangely well... Could be smurf-ish, but could also just be an up-and-comer player. Whats with the immediate dismissal? |

clear guidelines, clear consequences for violations of the guidelines, and consistency in applying them are necessary for a good set of forums. Cerne |

He's pretty good at the game as I have seen so far... But to answer his statement: We all post here in this forum in a here-and-now sort of way. We all expect change to come overnight(as though it isn't widely known that the powers that be have barely been frequenting this forum as of late). I say to you all... B]Give it some time!!!! |

That was a well pronounced, non inflamatory, statement/opinion. I will respond to that civily. Rules/Guidelines are good as long as it doesn't benefit just a few people. But when some of the people have the sole right to judge what is right or wrong without any form of reprisal, then my friend rebellions occur. That is what we have here. Everyone needs someone to answer to. From what I hear the chain of command is as follows: JP, (Very seldom active) earth (He's just a ghost in this house) Zentock (enough said) Vulcan (here and trying) I'm not saying that IF all the rules were followed, that anyone would have to take through the chain of command, but at the moment, there is no chain of command. The chain of command stop as Zentock. |

Another important feature of a good set of forums is a specific forum where only admins and mods can access. There they can talk among themselves and talk about their own concerns. and the users need a forum where they can post issues and complaints about the site and staff. The mods need know the admins will back them up. The users need to know that disrespect toward a mod or admin is unacceptable behavior and that the respect required of them will be reciprocated by the admins and mods. Until the smack forum is no longer used as a catch-all for complaints about staff and the site that 2 way road of respect isn't likely to occur. Cerne |
