Need some imput, server started slowing down this last week so I thought it might be time for some maint. so I brought system down did ckdsk and defrag. Also upgraded to new Mcafee and scanned entire system, did adware and spyware scanning, reset modem and rebooted server. Still having lag issues. Now I am in the part of the country that got hit by the frigid coldspell about the time the server started lagging, would the extreme cold cause any problems I am running AT&T DSL. Or could there be a problem somewhere in TWGS. Have had the server running for 1 year. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Want to get this thing back up to speed so people can play in their ships and not think they are in rowboats.

Well..
still off and on lag there.

Much worse when you have a couple people running scripts

I will have a 200 ping at a point.. then 10 seconds later I will have a 300 ping... then back to 200 again.

Do a tracert out to various spots.

My guess... you've got packet loss. Could it be related to the cold? Sure, if it resulted in a line problem that caused a weak transmit signal. Could it be something else? Absolutely.

So run pings and tracerts out to various spots all along the day. Notice any commonalities. If you start noticing a lot of ISP-related packet loss then call them and get a tech out.

It could also be the new McAfee or some of your adware/spyware software. Frankly it could be anything. But test the network first, get a bandwidth meter while you're at it and monitor your bandwidth usage and see if there are any spikes.

While you're at it... also watch your system load and memory usage. I'm sure you can find a program that'll do that over time... it might help you determine whether or not you've got some software acting up and causing a spike in load. Even if you don't, you'd be surprised by all the stuff that gets loaded over time and causes unnecessary CPU load.
