I've been playing this game off and on for years, and have never really got serious about it. Times change, games change, and I've fallen way behind.
I'm currently using Swath and twx, I've worked to collect scripts from Grimmy and any other site that holds them I know of, but dont' know how to utilize half of them, and half of them give me version errors and don't work.
I'd love to play a few games (one at a time) with an experienced player, that can help me work a game from start to finish and not get SD shortly into an active game. I can work a game, but only if I get in early, and lock it down with a grid early so to speak so I'm able to monitor other players activities, and keep a cap on it. I try to play some of these games with 10+ players on them that's been running for 2-3 days, and I'm popped every time.
I want to learn to play this game, and play it well. I want to learn scripts, how to use them, how to write them. I want to learn stratagy, how to calculate the odds of attack so I know when to attack, and when to retreat. I want to learn to defend myself, and take out others defences.
Like I said, I've been playin as an amature for years. I want to get serious. Any help out there?

Now that the Draft is over i plan on finding a game to have some fun in...Like REV i also dont use SWATH but i do use TWX in conjunction with Qmodem Pro....It is only my opionon but i think the SWATH / TWX combo is the worst set up in TW....I've seen more people have problems making those two work together properly then any other 2 programs used to play the game...It appears that SWATH is great by itself..but when used in conjunction with TWX it seems to have issues on both sides.Ive only experienced this as a spectator,,,As when ive had draft game corpies with issues using the two...not just in the last draft either....

I like the window that swath provides, keeping all my info up front and visible. I rarley use swath for scripts. Once set up it seems to work well. I like TWX for the scripts, but still have to learn what ones to use when, and the fastest way to bring them to order. Swath hotkeys work well on some, but not all. I need to learn what scripts to have up and running while I play, and what to execute manually and when. I don't believe in using scripts to play the entire game for me. They are a tool, and I don't want to learn how to win a game by setting the scripts loose and walking away from my terminal.
Rev, I'd love to play a game with you. Let me know what game and when. I'll do my best to be there. My schedule is flexable. I work some days long hours, some days not at all, others mornings or evenings. So it's hard to say I'm able to play every day at 6pm or such. But I play as often as time permits, and usually every day if I'm serious in a game.

I have been reading your posts, and based on what you have explained you are trying to do, we are hoping to accomplish at TradeWars Academy.

What we do is provide a "learning school" if you will. We run a second TWGS that is strictly our OCS server. I'm sure you've heard of it, but if not you can check our site. I'm still trying to post all the content in between my exercises I'm sent out on, so please bear with me.

One of the added projects I am working on is a module where you will have a BOT-instructor. This BOT will be available to assist in teaching general dynamics of the game, as well as a few advanced strategies and other tasks. You can be instructed on things like how to build an effective base, defenses, and more.

The Academy houses three styles- Player vs Alien (FFA), Player vs Alien (Tournament: such settings as # times blown up), and Player vs Player. The games are a selection of edits we run on our regular server, and you can request some settings changed. The only setting that will remain constant is the turns. We will not run unlim turns, as one can't learn effectively from an unlim game.

The original post about our Academy is located here:

http://outpost-4.com/tradewars/forum/vi ... .php?t=105

If you decide you wish to use this, then please let me know and I'll assist you. If you want to have a human player assist you, I can be available from time to time to assist you.

Well, if we all corp up, we might constitute the entire game. Got to find someone to play against! Also depends on the corp limits. I'm always game to play with new people. Thrawn,.. My aim is to gain some experience, then maybe I can help in that academy of yours. Not sure what I'd have to offer right now other than a monitor.

If you don't want to die quickly, stay away from games already a few days old. You might be able to get away with not being SD quickly in a turn game, however an unlimited is almost guaranteed death if it is being played by corps - solo players you might live as long as they are AFK.

As for the various combos - swath-twx is the one I have used for a few years and never had any issues (except for losing my triggers sometimes). I've tried the ZOC-TWX combo, but it really isn't to my liking. That is why some drive Fords and some drive Chevys tho.

Also, stay away from unlimited MBBS games where the regen is 5% and rob delay is on... (hint) ;)

Lol ouch......

I am hoping that was not to me. I know I made sure the TWGS ScoreKeeper changed the rob delay to off in the rebangs. I thing just the other games I have may need to be changed.

BTW which is better? MBBS or No MBBS?

That was correct. I mean if he was looking to play somewhere to learn, and I run the TradeWars Academy OCS server, then he could have his mentor there with him.

As far as TW Academy, I was simply saying that I've lots to learn, and would like to THEN, possibly help out at the academy. If I can figure out the site, I'm in. I thought I had an account at the academy, but it's not letting me in right now.

The Academy does not require a login at all. It is accessable from the main TradeWars site and opens in a seperate window. Otherwise you can access anything in the Academy site.
