I have a little question.

On a game I am running I want to have BORG planet and have the borg protect that sector, but I also want the borg to own other planets in that sector. So want I am looking for is there a way to create extra planets so it makes getting in the alien sector more difficult.... I want the home sector to have 5 total planets and 4 of the max at L3 , then in each surrounding sector have 3 L3 firing cannons at those that enter.
Is there a way in tedit to do this or do I need to drop the planets in and let the BORG or other aliens claim them and once they do then make the appropriate changes for cannons and such ?

I don't know of a way to have bang create multiple alien planets for one race, but I have seen sysop scripts out there that control alien behavior and setup. Sorry I couldn't help you any more, but I have never tried it.

Hello Toyman,

Thrawn and I had tried that similar idea on a game, but we had problems with it. We created a second planet and placed it in the alien's home sector, but it caused us nothing but grief. The game became corrupt, and the planet we placed plus the original alien planet were gone. We were not too sure what the issue was, but had assumed it was the Alien Race side of processes when dealing with two planets in their home sector. We then tried to place a planet adjacent to their home sector, but it too caused some issues.

In the end, and currently to this date, Thrawn and I have been writing a huge script that will basically perform the functions of the Alien Races. So far we can have two "aliens" that play, but the downside is only one at a time can play and they appear as "human players" since they use a player record and are in the scores. On the upside, we've managed to get some good results as the race has created a home planet and has stocked it for cit upgrades per the script we wrote. It has taken a lot of time to do this, but it's been a good experience and learning curve for me.

So unless other sysops have had success, I feel you may also get frustrated as we had by placing more than one planet in the alien sectors. Scripting seems to be the only way to get around the bugs and issues with the Alien side of Tradewars.

Your problem with multiple alien planets and data corruption might be unique. I've played with it some and haven't had that issue. The only downside to manually adding planets is that they're gone after a rebang, meaning you constantly have to remember to put them back.

So far I have 5 planets own by the BORG I had to move them out one at a time to get them to claim all 4. I will continue to let this test game run for a while to verify if there are going to be any issues. I been sitting in the sector watching off and on all day and so far they just keep moving product between planets..... not overly bright on their part but so far so good ;) I need them to claim them so I can turn the cannons on.
I made the other 4 planets so they can't hold Org or Equip and they are already maxxed at L3, I will keep an eye on it for a few days and see what they do.

Perhaps you are right Singularity. It may have been "how" we had placed them, meaning the ownership of them at the time. Or I wonder if it was because we had more than 4 races, and perhaps they built in "close proximity" to one another and ended up stumbling into another's sector and tried to use the planet.

Toyman, could you let me know if your tests worked out? Perhaps I can play around with this again and get it to work before Thrawn's return. Would be great if I got it to work as we intended.

Thank you both.

Having more than a few alien races dramatically increases the odds of corruption. If those races are set to move a lot, you can pretty much guarantee it if the game goes long enough.

Right now I have 4 extra planets in Home Sector of BORG, and 3 adjacent. I am running 4 Races and the other 3 Races will Have 2 extra in the home and 1 or 2 adjacent not 100% sure yet. I am running the aliens at 1 in 10 chance of moving. I will add others tomm and post results as I go.

There aren't any options in tedit to place ownership of planets to gold aliens, so basically the only way to place ownership is by letting them claim the planets themselves. The Ferrengi ownership option in tedit isn't gold aliens, but regular Ferrengi. So if you place a regular Ferrengi planet in a gold Ferrengi sector, they will clash.

Yeh, but they'll claim planets if they can get onto them. So leaving a lv6 planet sitting there w/ no ore or figs will result in them having another planet.

I will try your idea out . Perhaps that was our error last time- having fuel or figs on the planet. Or because we had too many different races clashing over planets. I'll try it in our private game with one race and go from there.

I've adjusted the settings now on the Aliens. It is one Alien Race in this game, max set to 10, initial set to 1, and # days to full strength is 120, and move chance is 1 in 10. I just reset the game today and I will place a planet in their space to see what happens.

I placed a L3 with 10M ore on it, once claimed I added 10M figs, to keep them from moving product I added to their L6 max Ore and Figs and it seems to keep them from moving product from one to the other. But only time will tell, I will move this to a machine that runs 24/7 and monitor it the rest of the week.

I currently have 19 extra alien planets
7-Borg
4-Romulan
5-Vulcan
3-Ferrengi
