Here is the HVS version, I thought TWGS was the same but I don't have a TWGS game to test it in right now:

Sector : 1916 in Seven Sages
Ports : Kars, Class 3 (SBB)
Fighters: 14 (belong to The Ferrengi) [Defensive]
Warps to Sector(s) : 1607 - 1708 - 2360 - 4900

You have to destroy the fighters to remain in this sector.

Your fighters: 1,711 vs. theirs: 14
Option? (A,D,I,R,S,?):? S
You still have some fighters left!

I wonder if that was the same as one of the TW versions from the early 90's that seems vaguely familiar.

Ok, I see that the default is "no", so if you press enter, you won't surrender. So for you to have surrendered, you'd have to have pressed Y. Of course, the prompt eats anything but Y and N, so if you have a script that's run amok, there's a good chance that you could end up surrendering your ship unintentionally.

I don't know... I can see the argument that you may want to be able to surrender without using those figs, but I also hate to have any more of a possibility of accidentally blowing up your ship than is absolutely necessary. That's a much bigger problem. Not sure how to resolve that when ultimately I suspect it's script error rather than human error that would cause this.

What if I give you an access code that you need to enter if you want to surrender with more than 0 figs? So it could say

Enter security code "A146" to verify his action:

Or something like that. That would be about as secure as I could make it while still allowing you to do it if you want.

When you surrender in HVS (which can only be done at 0 figs) you end up Ship Destroyed. I think TWGS is the same.

Its really only a problem if you enter a sector by a back door or with zero figs (no retreat) and cant take out the sector figs, which is why drop carrier and email corpie is the way out.

You should add something like that to CBY!

No, if you surrender a ship that has a pod, and you still
have a pod that day, you end up in a pod.

I like the 'Are you sure?' defaulting to No on an Enter. That
should be enough, it's actually nice to have it eat all but
Y, N, or Enter.

Testing continues.

But that is how it currently works, and you say you managed to accidentally destroy yourself a few times.

I think the problem was a script error .. a script that was not written right.

As for adding a security code .. this would only give back an advantage to a script or scripter .. in the case of surrendering at a prompt before someone comes to kill/pod them.

Also have same effect on cby ...

best to leave it as is , by default .. Enter = No
