Dont know if this is really a bug or not.. or if it has been addressed recently.

Shouldn't there be at least a "Surrender" option here?
If not.. you are just stuck.

Sector : 455 in uncharted space.
Fighters: 3,808 (belong to Corp#3, MagiC Inc.) [Defensive]
Warps to Sector(s) : (55) - (758) - (1233) - (7077)
Your fighters: 490 vs. theirs: 3,808
Option? (A,D,I,R,?):? R
<Retreat>
Sorry, you have nowhere to retreat to!
Your fighters: 490 vs. theirs: 3,808
Option? (A,D,I,R,?):?

On the HHT game I noticed a player surrendered a ship. I checked this on my server and it works correctly (I think).

You lost 750 fighter(s)
You destroyed 749 enemy fighters.
For attacking this slimeball's fighters you receive 50 experience point(s).
You have been promoted to Gunnery Sergeant!
Your fighters: 250 vs. theirs: 47,814
Option? (A,D,I,R,?):? A
<Attack>
How many fighters do you wish to use (0 to 250) [0]? 250
You lost 250 fighter(s)
You destroyed 270 enemy fighters.
For attacking this slimeball's fighters you receive 16 experience point(s).
Your fighters: 0 vs. theirs: 47,544
Option? (A,D,I,R,S,?):? <- The "S" is there if you run out of figs.

Yeah, it seems like a valid assumption that you won't want to surrender at least until you've used all of your figs.

I think the reason it's not available is there was a complaint from some who accidentally surrendered (fat fingers or whatever), so there are pros and cons to both. I think it's fine like it is, even if it might be confusing.

No idea, but I can't really see why you would surrender prior to still having figs. But there may be a legit reason I am not seeing.

One reason could be that you don't want the alignment change that could occur from the attack.

Perhaps putting the surrender option back in then adding an "Are you sure?" prompt would be better?

On a side note, if you are warping through a one-way warp into a sector with a density of 19k with less than 500 figs on your ship, then you're not going to be happy with the outcome.

Ok, these are good points. I'll make a note to add S in but add an "are you sure" prompt that ONLY comes up if you have more than 0 figs. That way it doesn't mess with existing scripts that might use the current S command.

Ok, I've had 3 ships surrendered due to a combo of
fat fingers and overly eager cashing scripts. Does
the 'are you sure' prompt default to 'NO' when we
hit an 'Enter?' There is no reason to have the S if
you have fighters left. Some basic scripts are hitting
S to scan the next sector and I'm finding myself hanging
on the surrender prompt.

I will try to make that more safe. I was afraid that would happen. Do you think that the potential for making a mistake is going to be high enough, even if I do change the default, to outweigh the benefit of having the ability to surrender even with remaining figs?

Maybe I could have even a second "are you sure"?

I think the answer is to have a default answer to do you want to surrender .. No
so if a script were to trigger and use enter .. your not in shinny new pod or dead.

Here is the HVS version, I thought TWGS was the same but I don't have a TWGS game to test it in right now:

Sector : 1916 in Seven Sages
Ports : Kars, Class 3 (SBB)
Fighters: 14 (belong to The Ferrengi) [Defensive]
Warps to Sector(s) : 1607 - 1708 - 2360 - 4900

You have to destroy the fighters to remain in this sector.

Your fighters: 1,711 vs. theirs: 14
Option? (A,D,I,R,S,?):? S
You still have some fighters left!
Your fighters: 1,711 vs. theirs: 14
Option? (A,D,I,R,S,?):?

- You cannot surrender until you run out of figs. Best thing to do if outgunned, of course, is drop carrier and email a corpie.
