I like that idea , I'm just not sure players would like me entering the game.
With my 380 + ping my showing up would bring the game to a stand still.

Right, that's my concern. It means that Vid never gets to play with lower ping times but others can. It does impact interactions between those players, but that's not the only impact of ping times. It's an advantage to be able to play your turns with 20 ms ping while Vid can only play with higher pings.

Of course, there are some who like this and they use ping times to determine what some players should do. But if you prefer that style of play, you should turn ping emulation off.

I don't want to turn it off. I just don't want to add unnecessary lag when there aren't any players with slow pings in the game ATM.

I agree making this dynamic is a bad idea though, because a player like Vid entering a game would lag everyone so bad that it would become unplayable. With my current player base 75ms should do fine.

I agree. The thing is, even though someone like Vid won't benefit as much from the 75 ms ping emulation, he'll still be better off than he would be without it. If someone with a 20 ms ping logs in, his ping is slowed to 75 ms, while Vid at 200 ms will feel the true ping without any additional delay. But the difference in his ping from the other guy is only 125 ms instead of the 180 ms that he would otherwise feel. So I think you can target your typical ping time rather than target the worst-case ping time.
