Re: Adding a feature for CEO to set corp SS channel
Just have a little switch in the CN: "Secure SS: On/Off"
If on, then only people on your corp get your SS msgs.
This would mean that others could still sweep thru, or even monitor SS, but they'd never get anything if that was turned on.
Seems the simplest way to implement a feature like this.

Similar to the feature SWATH has for encrypting messages? If On = Encrypted , Off = Normal Good things come from discussion

Seems the simplest way to implement a feature like this. Sounds good to me. The features we currently have are inefficient. For instance: 1) Private hails are private, but if turned on, anyone can spam it, and this really isn't a corporate option. 2) Corporate memos go to the general mail file and get l mixed in all sorts of garbage messages. 3) Subspace channels aren't secure even with 60,000 channels. The only option we currently have for secure corporate communications is SS with some sort of mesage scrambler and that would require all the helpers/proxies to be in sync with each other. Also any encoded messages can be descrambled by anyone that has seen the code.

Well, could make encryption use a dual-key system. Since all codes would be encrypted using individual public keys, no third party would be able to eavesdrop even if they knew each player's public key.
But that's a lot work, and its just one more thing that separates scripters from non-script users. Might as well make it a simple server-side option and save everyone the trouble.

Already brought up. JP says SS Crawling is part of the game.

You wanted Crawling. You used Crawling. Live with it.

Wouldn't it be more productive to open it for discussion and if enough people are for it, maybe JP will reconsider. Nothing is set in stone until the engraver is done and cleaned up. He is still working on the software so keep tossing ideas out you never know what one might get in next release.

And I will do what I feel best also. It is a Universal Truth.
This is the Third thread on Boo! Crawling in Beta. If people want to waste there time "spamming" All qss to an empty channel and call it spamming not Crawling then WHy should I care?

Is this discussion actually Beta related? The reason I ask is because I recall reading from another post that John was *not* considering this. Is John considering this, or is this something to invite discussion from others to get their views? its as much of a beta related question as any of the new features that were discussed and implemented or discussed and not Used that have been posted in the beta forum.
I think its a good thing to talk about .I dont believe there should be a change in the game for this feature.....To me its a live by the sword Die by the sword issue.,,,As users scripts become more heavily reliant to SS messages in Team/Corp games this issue becomes more and more of a target. As most commercial helpers have already taken issue with ie scramblers and encription keys its about time that Scripters take this issue into consideration....And some people like Team Kraaken have already put some effort into and have come up with their own solution and other people like members of Boo! inc. take the issue under consideration when designing scripts as to what information is actually transmitted on SS to begin with. I don't think it should change in "This" version of TW. Thats my opinion.

Re: Adding a feature for CEO to set corp SS channel
A few questions...
The idea proposed is having the ability to have a Corporate Sub Space channel specific to that corporation that is created, correct?
How would it be setup? Would it be auto assigned by the game itself, or would the corp CEO set this up?
Would this affect current helpers like SWATH?
I assume the advantage to this is to prevent another player/corp from gaining access to your SS channel and "gaining" anything "useful" or spoofing bots/scripts. Are there other advantages?
What are the disadvantages to having this feature?

Re: Adding a feature for CEO to set corp SS channel
The disadvantage according JP is it would interfere in the game. Crawling is part of the game. His words not mine. You would also be locked to a channel and couldn't move to another for cashing. Depending on how it was coded but it isnt so its not so this is moot.
2 other threads on this already. John has already ruled on this idea.

2 other threads on this already. John has already ruled on this idea. If you were locked to a channel, then it basically replaces the current CN4 setting for SS, correct? Or could you not have two settings (regular SS and your Secure Corp Channel), and toggle between which one is active? I may have missed the other 2 threads to see John's responses. I'll search them out and read up on them.

Thrawn wrote: A few questions...
The idea proposed is having the ability to have a Corporate Sub Space channel specific to that corporation that is created, correct? right thats the general idea...in this thread it started in the context of helix asking for a the ability to For the CEO to change the SS channel in the Corp menu. However the general idea is a Secure SS that can't be detected by a crawler
How would it be setup? Would it be auto assigned by the game itself, or would the corp CEO set this up?
Would this affect current helpers like SWATH?
Well thats the debate mostly that and if it should be at all....The idea would best be implemented by not allowing people to select the SS of a corp CEO unless they were on Corp...This would actually solve EVERYONES concern,,,,,well except mine..Then the CEO would be in control of The SS channel number AND it would be completly secure as no one not on corp could select that particular channel number AND it would allow for Changing the SS during things like Cashing and other procedures where it spams SS comms. As noted though JP has kinda weighed in on the issue already.
I assume the advantage to this is to prevent another player/corp from gaining access to your SS channel and "gaining" anything "useful" or spoofing bots/scripts. Are there other advantages? only in advantages of having a 100% secure SS channel
What are the disadvantages to having this feature? It changes game play in that there is no ability to use SS Sweeper scripts on your enemy....In reality it does nothing more then this.....I think it been around forever as is and should be kept that way and let Scripters Solve it for themselves...As people like Parrot and Singularity already have.
