I hear this sort of thing occasionally, but then when
I build games for "other" styles of play, they never
get played. I've come to think that this isn't true,
that most people that claim to want "old" styles of
play don't actually play at all.

The style is not possible currently. The games are so crippled to drive away heavy script players that they really are NOT attractive at all to play in.

I'm currently playing in a builders game that should be noob friendly, right? There are a couple of teams there that are advanced skilled players just shootin' fish in a barrel right now. I have heard everything from conspiracy theories to secret sysop access to that move cannot have happened... it's 'inhuman!" All from players who have played this game for years, but never against this type of competition.

I happen to like the way the advanced players are playing right now, I only wished I had a team that understood the tactics they employ. But since many inexperienced or noob or "rocking chair builders" are used to the quiet of the builders games today, they are running, not just walking away.

Adapt or die... they just want a silly little game to relax in. They aren't interested in highly competitive games or learning how to use advanced scripting to play in tournaments. They just want a little game to putter around in, slap each other once in a while and amass great fortunes. Nothing wrong with that, that is until the more advanced players come in like the Borg... “Adapt or die hooman!” (sorry that’s Ferrengi) LOL

Actually, it is possible. I mean you can just pass a
rule that doesn't allow scripting. Yes, that's not
entirely enforceable, but it keeps out most grid
war.

You'll always have that. Better players are always
going to kill players that suck. It's not our fault
that some people refuse to learn to play. You can't
stop that, it only takes one person.

No there aren't. There's maybe 3 people in the
entire game that "run" away from that. If there
were more players like that, they would be
flocking in droves to builder games. They aren't.
Sysops aren't going to build games for a non
existent player base.

3 have left the game from my corp alone, 3 more are on the verge of quitting. Anyone interested in a “builders” game looking at the carnage in the daily logs isn’t going to bother.

Anyhow, moot point. JP strongly feels the game needs pacing, and the pacing he’s done has done nothing to effect how the game is currently played. I believe you can attest to that since you did a lot of the pacing testing with him.

Now, since there are so many more “options” to roll out to a great many new sysops he’s looking to roll those options into balanced settings so that more inexperienced sysops can have a base from which to build upon, to create their own style offerings while hoping to retain balance in the pace settings for “suggested” playing styles. Adding a layer to the TWA’s if you will that are currently available to help new sysops run games the players have shown to enjoy playing.

I’d think you all would be thrilled, having had to make due with a static game for 6 years. Seems to me it’s like going from Neapolitan to Baskin Robin’s, just more “flavors” and I guarantee you won’t like them all, but you may find one or two new ones to your liking.

Nothing to do with Topic at hand.

Quit deflecting and stay on topic.

Again nothing to do with the topic.

Is it really so hard to say wow I looked at the settings and this is good that is bad and move on.

like John says the speed of the processors and the internet. At first I didn't believe it myself until I found the old HVS game still running. This thing absolutely flies off the screen it's so fast! The old game I had such fond memories of moving as slow as molasses is now moving so fast I'm getting dizzy! It could only process as fast as the processors of the day, which if I'm not mistaken a 486 was pretty darned fast back then with a whopping 8 Megs of RAM no less! LOL

Thanks for the performance compliment on the old HVS version.

The latest beta with timing settings is working nicely also, and is almost outperforming the hvs version as far as turns per minute go. The specific delay OPTIONS and no pmissle turn loss are great and will make for a much wider range of game config's for sysop's.

I will have to dig out the old 486dx 50 with 16 meg ram and see how twgs v2beta runs. :) wonder if it runs in dos 5 :? .

I upped the turns to 1250 and did a little testing this morning, sent JP my screen cap videos for his review.

I'll be making a dupe account to test the attack scripts this weekend if anyone wants to goof off. (Had my "Christmas" with my son and his new gf last night)
