Bug TWGS v 2.07 - Helix's Server, Game I.
Capturing an Alien Ship using a simple burst macro: "< a y 500* < sh". I moved in to cap the ship when it had zero figs left.. and got the msg that I had been attacked when locking Tow on the ship. Code: <Move> Warping to Sector 558
Sector : 558 in uncharted space. Ports : Great Cardassia, Class 4 (SSB) Ascian W: Menace 3rd Class Shuzu Wiopib, w/ 0 ftrs, in Emuon Meroxim (. Ascian Boat of Humility) Fighters: 1 (belong to your Corp) [Defensive] Warps to Sector(s) : 11100 - 28060

...it's as though the message was queued, but didn't get sent until another Alien hit a fig. I got podded the other day because of this 'snail mail' laff

Yeh, we've seen that bug a few places. Seems to be a problem.

It appears as though the alien attacked your ship before you even entered the sector, because your sector view showed the alien with 0 fighters. I wonder if this is what caused the message to be delayed. I will make sure a player is completely in a sector before he can be attacked.

I think what you're missing here is there was a new alien that warped in attacked you and warped out. Notice the different names and different ship types, same alien race though. Missing warped in and warped out messages. I just locked tow on the Empty ship... It's my feeling that the Ascian attacked me during the inital capture, but the Msg's stayed buffered until the Ferball hit my Fig.

Maybe. But what I'm looking at is the fact that the alien's fighters were depleted before you got your first view of the sector after warping in. That shouldn't happen. You should be fully in a sector before the alien can attack you, meaning you should have seen a loaded alien, then received the "attacked" messages. If the attack happened before you were fully in, then the message probably didn't come through because the game didn't see you as "in the sector" to receive the message. Then when you got another message trigger, you were in the sector where the message was posted, so it displayed. That's the only thing that makes sense to me based on the code logic. But either way, there just shouldn't be any way to attack someone before they're fully in a sector. There are too many open variables associated with entering a sector. I'll look at closing that off as an atomic procedure so that the all "enter sector" events are completed before the player's data can be accessed. Many actions in TW are like this, but not all, and entering sector is one that probably should be but isn't. I'm actually not sure why it isn't. That's definitely an oversight and just asking for problems in fast, tightly scripted games.
