I've been away on other projects for awhile, but am trying to work TW back into my rotation. I know of a few issues that are showing up under serious script conditions. But I'm wondering if there are any other common issues I need to address. Does anyone know of a bug that they believe appeared only within the last few releases? I'm just trying to get an assessment of where we are with this version before diving back in. Botlink and TW Passport not included, because they're not officially released yet and aren't critical.

The only thing I know of, and it's minor...

When the game is in Gold mode, the Alien Traders swarm SD. To prevent this I have to go into the alien editor and tell them to avoid Fed Space.

The TW passport thing. I still have never been able to get in the game with it.

Yeah, TW Passport has some bugs that I need to clean up before we can do another test pass.

Cruncher, I'll have another look at the alien thing. I've looked at it before. Maybe send me another TWA where it's happening and I'll have a fresh look at it. It's just so time-consuming to trace these aliens and see if they're behaving right or not.

If I recall correctly John , that has been addressed and fixed on the twgs.classictw.com server.
The aliens were dropping fighters in fed space.
They avoid fed space and dock if so set.

What else was needed ?

Game A on the beta server. The aliens behave just fine unless the game is in Gold mode, then they swarm SD unless you go into the alien editor and tell them to avoid fed space.

So, quick fix would be to make "avoid fed space" the default setting in the alien editor.

I want to clarify - this is not the custom "Gold" aliens here, but the normal Alien Traders race that's misbehaving. ;)

Check out game A. I'd verify but the game is still closed right now and won't open until after I leave.

Oh, I misunderstood that. It's standard Alien Traders. The behavior of those aliens shouldn't be different today than it has been for 15 years. So I wonder at what point this started happening. Whatever "ai" there is about alien movement does not apply to standard Alien Traders.

I'm confused about what you mean about telling these aliens to avoid FedSpace. You can't tell the non-Gold Alien Traders anything. They aren't customizable in that way.

I know the Aliens can trade, etc, but is there an algorithm tied into their trading habits as well as navigation? I ask because - Cruncher, if you have seen this also, chime in - I find Aliens/Ferrengi/Custom Aliens all over FedSpace. It's kinda fun, actually because I spend my day hunting them down on the usual routes between Sol, sectors 2-10, and around the Star Dock.

Post subject:  SD Swarm and Scatter

Cruncher,

Do you also notice that as soon as you enter the SD's sector that any type of alien seems to "scatter" after attacking? For example, I'll attack a negative aligned alien and poof: 50% of the aliens swarming the SD are gone, but they return on and off.

Just curious if you've seen the same behavior...

Cruncher posted somewhere that the Desc.ansi screen does not show after editing unless you cycle your server.

I have not noticed this because I do not edit it that file but once or twice .. but was a good catch that she noticed it.

Can't say that I have, I usually don't attack the Alien Traders. Now, you make some special Gold Aliens, and make them aggressive, put them in powerful ships... now you're having fun!

I have an edit with 3 Gold races that attack everything in site, even other Alien races.

Hehehehe - I tried to make my new Aliens peaceful, but they chose their own path: DESTRUCTION!

There seems to be a problem with this edit. I got an H with IG on in sector with Iron Ranger. He was able to retreat off my def figs. This seems to be the second time this has happened. What should have been a pod was a dud.

I really do not want to play in a game where hours of play ends in a glitch.

I worry that the scripter in this case will continue to take advantage of a 'bug' not only in this game but in the future. Is there anyway to fix this? This should capture the attention of JP.
