This is not an area to debate the pros and cons of proposed features. It is an area for people to suggest new features for either TW or TWGS. I will either add the proposed feature to my planned features list, or explain my reasons for passing on the feature at this time. Features added to the list can be voted on so I can gauge people's interest.

They are saying that it reports the server time, which is eastern for my server. I'm not actually in the Eastern time zone, I am in central. I don't see how that affects game play in any way though.

I don't know why this is so complicated. The server time matters because everything is scheduled based on that time. If it says the game opens on 11/10/2011 at 8 pm (eastern time), that's server time. Should I just give all times in Greenwich Mean Time? At least the day will be the correct day, which is what this feature request is about. Isn't it better to base your plans on the server time than on a date and time that's set in the year 2023?

Ok , I just tested this on TWGS on a fresh box with only XP pro and TWGS and Swath .. my virus AGV didnt seem to have problems.

What I did ..
Advanced the server clock by 16 yrs so that the in game year would equal 28 yrs into the future (2039).
I had to rebang the game so that there would be no issue with this matter.

Everything seems to be ok .. running around now trading ..
CT shows the same Day as it does here locally ...

Which is what I'm asking for ..

the in game year is 2039 ... this will work perfectly on all leap years to come.

This all I asked .. no in game timers needed other then what is already in server and this will make no changes to its operation ..
Note : all games on the upgrade has to be rebanged because of the year change will effect all matters in the running edit if not rebanged.
To avoid this .. stop all games and know rebangs have to be done.

But that alone is reason to avoid making this kind of change unless it's very necessary. I'd have to make it a Bigbang option, and there just isn't much space left in Bigbang for options. Plus, I shudder to think of the side-effects to making a change like this. Sorry, I know it seems like such a minor thing to do, but it really isn't.

I dont understand .. you did a year change from 2002 to 12 yrs into the future .. no ill effects except just as now ..if you change it to 28 yrs instead .. the sysop would again have to rebang all games .. nothing has changed but the server Day reflects true Day.

That is all ...

Ok, if I do this, it would have to be done only at bigbang, and it wouldn't be applied to any active games. It would only be applied once you rebang. So if you're running a game when you install the new version, it will say 2023 for your active games. If you run bigbang on a new game, that new game would be 12 years later (or whatever), 2035. I can live with that. Would that do it for you? I don't want to change the date mid-game and I don't want to force ops to rebang existing games that use the original date, but I can do that. I'll just turn on a flag on bigbang that says "advance the date by 12 years".

If I'm not mistaken, I think it needs to be 1939, that's what Vid is asking for. If we don't get this right the days will be different still.

We know you want to bring back the moldy olden days of TW, but that kind of predates it a bit. Are you wanting to relieve your teenage years as well. :p

To point out some trivia... this will not always work. Leap years are years divisible by four, but not years evenly divisible by 100, but including years divisible by 400. So 2100 will not be a leap year. Vid's suggestion will stop working in the real year 2072, when the game year is 2100.

Somehow I don't think we need to worry about this too much...

Yeah, TW isn't Y2K compliant anyway, so it's going to break at game year 2100 regardless. Sure, that can be fixed, but the projected year can also be changed on the crazy off chance that anyone is still maintaining this game in 60 years :)

If I am still around (@108) I got a feeling I will be more worried about who is changing my depends than playing TW

Ok I think there has been a misunderstanding.
So let me draw a picture mentally.

Todays date:
Nov. 08 , 2011
TWGS 2.XX date:
Nov. 08 , 2023 - offset of 12yrs.
Test Server set:
Nov. 08 , 2027 - offset of 16yrs.
Target date:
Nov. 08 , 2039 - actual offset from actual yr. is 28yrs.

I hope this helps the understanding better.
What this will accomplish is that the DAy of the week
will be correct and any leap years will correspond right.

That is all.

And I'll hope with this date fixed will breath an extra 16 yrs. into the game.
