Post subject:  A Subzero Christmas Tournament

Last year a revealed an edited version (names of ships and planets only) of Subzero, and called it A Subzero Christmas. This year I would like to make it an official tournament. The basic details are as follows, and I have attached the TWA. Again, the only thing I have changed is the names of the ships, planets, ports, and fedspace. If anybody has any advice, please let me know.

3,000 Turns
20,000 Sectors
4 Planets per sector
4 members per corp
3 day limit on entry
12 Deaths to your locked out. Deaths = Deaths, not pods.

I plan on commencing the tournament on 4th January 2019 at 8:00 PM EST. Please let me know if this works for everybody, and if not, please suggest dates.

It's not a bad time of the year for me personally.

Might want to consider a time limit on the game and victory conditions at end of time limit?

Also please put up a practice game because I don't have a TWGS license or server to test it myself.

I have been presented with suggestion that I really like. I know there would not be a whole lot of time to get ready, but everybody already knows the edit anyways. I think I will open the tournament on Black Friday at Midnight, just like the sales. The practice game is now open, game X. If you have an objection, please let me know. Rules and Victory conditions will be announced later today.

When is Black Friday? I'm in Australia so have no idea when that is.

I mean midnight of the 23rd, so 00:00 on the 23rd, or 12:00 that leads us from the 22nd to the 23rd. I have also speculated on ending the tournament 4 weeks later on the 22nd at 00:00, or the 12:00 between the 21st and 22nd.

It does my head in doing the maths on this, given it's Friday 8:12am at the moment here and it's some version of Thursday in the US.

So it'd be the equivalent of it opening midnight tonight (It's Thursday Rolling into Friday now).

Only thing is your server time is about 4pm at the moment, so that'd make midnight in 8 hours. That's 4pm my time which is great for me but that seems late for many in the US? In my experience I'm usually playing by myself around that time.. Perhaps opening before midnight might be wise?

p.s. practice game is still locked :)

I've been thinking seriously for years about reverse engineering the script (should be easy enough to do by writing down what it does for haggles, with enough data you can do the math) and releasing it as a .ts.

There is no reason this should be a cts that everyone waits for at the beginning of each calendar year.

Any way you could start it at midnight 24 hours later (Friday night)?

I, for one, will be spending time with family at that time on the 23rd and will not be able to join, which probably means I won't be playing since I would be joining too late. I suspect at least some others will be in the same situation.

Another suggestion: no solo players after day 3 (lock it down at that point, no new players either). There's always one or two idiots who come in and talk smack on fedspace while sitting at dock for the entire tournament. No need for that nonsense. Either you corp up and play or your account gets removed once the game starts.

I was actually thinking Friday, 23rd November, at 9:00pm EST. I would hope by this time everybody would be finished with festivities, and will finally be able to drag themselves off the couch. The game will run for exactly 28 days, and finish at 9:00pm EST on Friday, 21st December.
