What is this ?
Looks like tradewars is becoming a new game.
Straying away from the old and known rules and ways.

Quote:
When death delay is enabled, you can specify how many deaths to allow each
day before forcing the player to wait until the next day to restart. For
example, if deaths per day is set to 1, the player can die and restart one
time. After the 2nd death, the player must wait until the next day to restart.

The default is 0 deaths.

How many deaths per day? (0 to 255) [0] :

Does zero mean , the way its always been ?
Or does it mean someone messed up on yet another default setting ?

If it were a mess up due to lack of player knowledge , shouldn't it be
defaulted to 2 ?

just my 2ยข

From my testing it looks like that setting is for how many times you can be #SD# in a 24 hour period. I podded a test player and it did nothing, did 2 more and worked as it did in previous versions.

I'm confused. The first line of the text you quoted reads:
"When death delay is enabled, you can specify how many deaths to allow"

Shouldn't the be when death delay is disabled? I thought this was an option to prevent CBY cashing when death delay was off?

There is also a setting for how many times if Death Delay = Off , that when you rejoin you still get cash/ships too. Not 100% sure exactly how it all ties together without more testing.

On a side note, are you using the Silverwings codes for your test server?

Vid, please stop editorializing.

When Death Delay is enabled, that means there will be a delay to reenter after you're dead. The sub-setting is how many times to allow you to die before this death delay kicks in. If Death Delay is disabled, then there is never a death delay no matter how many times you die.

If you think about it, for Death Delay to kick in immediately, the number of deaths to allow would be 0. So setting to 0, the default, would be the same behavior as before. If you allow one death before the Death Delay is imposed, then you'd die once, get right back in, die again and you're out for the day. Make sense?

Sorry, Vid, I'm not sure where 2 comes from. Unless you mean podding. Death delay only takes into account actual deaths, not pods. That's probably where you're confused. You're thinking pods?

I'm pretty sure he's referring to getting podded.

Ok. Podding isn't really factored in. Whenever you die, however that happens, Death Delay keeps you from reentering the game until the next day, and when you come back, you get a new ship. That's the way I understood the rule.

Being put in a pod is just losing a ship, #SD# is being dead. You can lose 2 ships per day without being dead, if you lose a 3rd, you are dead for the day. Look at the settings it says "Times Blown Up" not "Times #SD#"

Ok, there are two different limits on the number of times you can be podded before being destroyed. One is the "Max Times Blown Up" which is a tournament-only setting, and really overrides the Death Delay setting by forcing you out of the game once you've been blown up a certain number of times, where "blown up" means either podded or destroyed. The other is a hard-coded limit of 2 poddings per ship that was put in place at v3.05 to combat cross-podding. I haven't thought about that for years. Basically, if any ship gets podded twice in a day, that's it, you'll be destroyed even if you have another pod on the ship.

Neither of these has an effect on Death Delay. The tournament mode overrides the Death Delay by locking you out for the tournament once the count is reached. Prior to reaching that count, the Death Delay setting is used to determine if you must wait a day to return or not. And the 2 pod per ship per day limit just provides another way to be killed, along with getting destroyed in a pod or in a Scout. If Death Delay is on and set to allow one death before you're kept out for the day, and you get podded three times, with the third resulting in being #SD#, then that counts as 1 toward your Death Delay allowance of 1 death. Get #SD# in any way again and you'll be out for the day.

There's one more complication to this. I'm pretty sure if death delay is off or you are otherwise allowed in on the same day, your pod count resets. Example. You are in a merchant cruiser and an IC attacks you. Bye bye mercru! Pod one. You get another mercru and enter a sector with five quasar cannons. Bye bye mercru! Pod two. You buy another mercru and think it'd be a fun idea to attack Stardock. Bye bye mercru! No pod for you, bye bye!

You come back later, no death delay or you can die once, whatever. You sell off your scout for another mercru. Now you find Zyrain and try to throw a few fighters his way. Bye bye mercru! Pod one. etc. etc.

I think that's how it should work.
