Is there one post that has a brief summary of exactly what's going on? What is TWGS beta and where do I get one?

Great thanks I was completely missing it even after you told me where it was.

Part of what was confusing me was TWGS and TW have different version numbers... I never noticed that before.

Do my old TWGS license keys do anything for me?

You can always download the latest version here:

http://www.eisonline.com/downloads/

... and yes, your old codes will work with the new version. This is a free upgrade for existing TWGS gameops.

If you have a version 1 TWGS and Trade Wars Gold License, you can use that on the new Version 2 to fully open it to full functionality, and have full access to the editors and everything else in the TWGS, it also has a feature to add your TWGS to the jumpgate site, also you may want to visit this site and register your TWGS there as well to make sure you get a good listing.

Micro's Site:

http://microblaster.net/

I hope that answered your question on the TWGS License and hope you enjoy the new version.

Funny thing your site's MicroBot can find and put the new TWGS data on your site, but Stardock's TWGS Bot can't, they sent me an Email saying their bot can't detect the v2 TWGS, you may want to tell them how to make it work. Lmao. I don't know what the problem is, but I am sure it will be an easy fix if they want to make it work.

MicroBot was actually written for v2.x first, and then I added support for v1.x, MBBS, and BBS versions at a later time.

I guess Elec has been to busy to fix it. I can see his bot log into my TWGS, and it logs into each game, but it is not updating the website.

I read the changes, I don't know what all the fuss is about. It doesnt appear John has removed or added anything ground breaking that isnt sysop configurable.

Most of the changes are internal, and supposed to make the TWGS run better, and the main changes I have seen that of the sysop, is we have more control of the servers speed and on delays, they are now in a seperate section on the editor on their own. The release of 2.14 is supposed to give us greater control of the speed when the beta is done, 2.07 had that control but not too stable, then JP limited how fast we could make the servers speeds in the currrent versions, and is testing the 2.14 on the beta site and keeping the speeds regulated to run the tests, and when it is ready to release he is supposed to have it released with full speed control for the sysops to be able to be used.

He also has built into the editors monitors that find corrupted data and lets the sysop know and an option for where that corrupted data is, to offer the sysop to fix the data when the TWGS finds that corruption, I know this one as I had tested it and see that it works. That is a function we didn't have on the older version.

Don't get me wrong I like othes like the older version and wish we had fixes for it, but as times change we have to adapt to the changes and keep on going, I am just preparing and adjusting for that change, if I have to make it, I will be ready, I still offer my original version on my TWGS connections. And will continue to do so until it is not feasable to do so. At the same time I am offering the new version for those who wish to use it. Just to cover all bases, so to speak.

There's nothing at all wrong with wanting to keep an older version open and available to play.

I was tickled pink when I learned that the old HVS MBBS game was still running, on several servers actually. When I first returned, and even still my memories of the finer details of this game are very often of the older HVS version. But after playing TWGS 1.03, then the Old HVS game, and now the new 2.13 game as a sysop, and a player, I prefer the 2.13 game and can't wait for 2.14 to be released.

Sometimes we have to step back to fully appreciate and embrace the improvements.

I agree Cruncher. I also like the old HVS BBS's also, I used to play at Stonwall's and on Toads BBS's I know Toadville was still up a couple of years ago, I don't know if it still is now or not. I haven't checked on Stonwalls BBS in a while so don't know there either.

On the change with TWGS I agree there as well. That is why I am offering both versions, thogh I still like the v1 the v2 is winning me over with some of the changes, some of which I mentioned in this thread.

There are a lot of changes but you have to actually go through the editor and look closely at the things in it to actually see where the changes are at, and how they work, but by far the two change I really like are the more control on the TWGS speed and delays, and the data corruption editor, the data corruption editor is not listed on the editors, it only shows if there is data that is corrupted that it found and offers you the chance to repair the corruption. I like this because it saves me the headache of having to look through the data and manually have to fix it myself. I give cudo's to JP on that one.

Not sure it it is the same one, but there is a Toadville running Synchronet (telnet://toadville.org/).

Stonwall's Last post in the forum was in December 2005, and there is no response from thedeepsouth.org

I was only able to find 2 MBBS games when I first returned, and then Scrat sent me a list that had some additional ones. There are currently 11 on my list, but two of them appear to be down:

http://microblaster.net/Servers.aspx?type=hvs

Microbot is unable to script most of them, because the "V" screen doesn't display any statistics. This is caused by missing or corrupt files in the installation.

Thanks for the info guys, so what is it you like about the old version that is changed in the beta? To me it sounds like the changes are all enhancements. From what ive read so far, I agree with the guy that said he didnt understan
d all the fuss.

Thanks for the information. So what is it you like about the current version that will not be included in the beta? From what I've heard so far, I agree with Kaus: what's all the fuss? It doesn't even look like a lot of people's scripts will be broken.

What I like about the new version I already stated, and from what I see the players scripts, for the most part seem to work, most of the issues I have seen are the server side scripts, have to be tweaked and modified to work with it, so you would think that there would be more sysops hating the change, but I am not one of those, and I don't really see what the fuss is about either, but who knows.

As for what I like about the current version, it works and has a proven track record, despite the bugs that are still in it, bugs that the newer version should have gone in it, I think mostly the people that don't like the change may have to do with not being able to use those bugs to have an edge in game play anymore, but that is just looking at as a sysop, but I do think the old version should have had its bugs fixed first, but I am not going to cry about that, if the new version corrects that and doesn't introduce any new unknown bugs that will affect the game play, or the sysops job on the TWGS.

Just my thoughts on things.
