Because it seems as gold aliens homeworlds cannot be destroyed. Players use them to overload door sectors and since they are alien, the whole sector is ignored as far as planet collisions are concerned. I imagine this bug works with any aliens that have homeworld planets.

Most ops seem to ignore this bug and the players using them. Most of the subzero games on UTW (v1.03 server) see this bug used and it is also used in v2.xx (Game A - Darkstarbase for example)

Darkstarbase - Game A

Sector : 27834 in uncharted space.
Ports : Adams Minor, Class 2 (BSB)
Planets : <<<< (E) Ascian Wanderer Homeworld >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Ferrengal >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Subterfuge HomeWorld >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Camelot >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Nightmare >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Death Star >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Dreamcatcher >>>> (Shielded)
<<<< (E) Avalon >>>> (Shielded)
Fighters: 13,028 (belong to Corp#2, FARS) [Defensive]
NavHaz : 2% (Space Debris/Asteroids)

And it seems as if the overloaded sector doesn't show up in the logs

Helix was attacked by The Ferrengi's fighters!

That is the benefit to grabbing the alien planets.

I make it an objective to a win on my server , because it is easy to check on winning conditions using alien planets or Trophy planet.

Sure there are players who like to go player vs player , that is fine
but the win is stated in the objectives of the game.

So after they have defeated or invaded all active players they will still have to build back up to complete the objective or they are just playing alone
till the game expires (yes , there is an end time also listed in objectives).

This has been how I determine rebang times , until something better comes to light.

Its a bug, if you set the planets per sector at 3, and a player uses an alien planet to keep 5 planets in a sector with no collisions because one is alien, then its a bug.

I have too. Thats why I think its a bug not a sysop setting. Alien planets should be affected by the same collision conditions as a regular planet all the time, not some of the time.

There is that Invincible Ferrengal setting in t-edit but I thought that wasnt a gold alien setting.

Or even if they aren't... other planets in the sector with them should be.

Ok, I'm going to do some research on this. I'll let you know what I find out.

Its not a bug. Because if you have the regular planet count higher then what the v screen allows they will blow, even if the alien planets are there. Its not a bug, its just the the alien planets aren't counted. TV

If I change this so alien planets are counted, is it going to be very disruptive? Am I going to have to make it an option?

Ok, I've looked this over. Basically, Gold alien planets are supposed to be invincible. So if you try to use atomic detonators on them, you get the message "The defiant inhabitants successfully disable your Atomic Detonator!". And it shouldn't be possible to destroy an alien homeworld with planet collisions. So if there's a bug here, it's that an alien homeworld can be destroyed in a collision in an overloaded sector even if it isn't counted toward the overload threshold.

Are there any other ways to destroy a Gold alien homeworld?

Update: Looking at the code, it's clearly filtering out Gold alien homeworlds when choosing the planets to collide, so there's something else going on if a Gold homeworld has been found to collide. Maybe some data corruption. My guess is it's a rare issue.

So based on my analysis, I don't think anything needs to change here.
