This is not an area to debate the pros and cons of proposed features. It is an area for people to suggest new features for either TW or TWGS. I will either add the proposed feature to my planned features list, or explain my reasons for passing on the feature at this time. Features added to the list can be voted on so I can gauge people's interest.

I'm not familiar with the board etiquette, this being my first post, surrounding bumping inactive threads, but I would like to revisit the idea of an "evil ship", that is, creating a ship that requires being a red player to get to. After giving it some thought, I think I have a reasonable solution to this popular request.

First, adjust the Ferrengi slightly to give them a heavier ship, something a bit below the ISS in power. I favor renaming the Battle Cruiser to Hunter-Killer, Destroyer, etc., the Dreadnought to Battle Cruiser, and the new class be called a Dreadnought, but that's just me. Maybe 40k fighters, 1600 shields, 125 cargo, etc. This top Ferrengi ship will be the evil ship.

Now, to get the evil ship, they will have to visit a "mysterious trader/stranger/figure/whatever" in the underground. This will strongly be implied to be a Ferrengi agent selling ships to fund their war. The ships for sale there would be the Ferrengi set, minus the Scorpion (obviously) at hugely inflated prices, maybe 3-5 times what the ship is actually worth. Upon purchase of the ship, the agent will arrange for a "captured warship" to be waiting for the buyer outside. From this point, the ship is treated like any other player owned Ferrengi ship.

Make it a toggleable feature, add a tag under ship settings or misc for "Sold in Underground" to allow Gold editor to determine which ships are and aren't, and it seems to me like we have a good way to give red players access to a ship which doesn't require adding a new Stardock or an anti-Federation, etc.

Edit: Oh, and since you are funding the Ferrengi war effort, should should probably take an alignment hit too when you buy.
Thoughts?

I think a RED Only flag would be nice and a EXP required flag not be Commishion only ...
that way EXP could be a flag in itself .. and adding red or blue as an added function.

I do not know if this should actually be added to the TWGS as a Tedit function or if it can be adapted through the Bot Link.

If it can be handled through Bot Link , then this feature may be soon to come.

I have already added a field to Gold ship data to support an alignment requirement. I haven't enabled it yet because I wasn't sure how best to handle the acquisition of evil ships. I also feel that there needs to be an "enforcer" like you have with the Feds and the ISS. This is one of the reasons that I recently added support for Pirates as "evil Feds". It's not active in the games yet, but there's a single pirate called Black Bane who's head of the Tycho Syndicate, a band of pirates who are based somewhere in the Tycho Expanse nebula (which I also added some time ago). So I am working up to this. It has been requested that I just add the setting and leave the other details for later, but I'd like to do this right. We are close. I think the easiest implementation from this point would be to allow an evil player to transact with Black Bane wherever you find him and purchase a ship from him in deep space. And if you "go good", or lose your alignment requirement, Black Bane will show up and spank you like a Fed would an evil player in an ISS.

Vid's right, though. With Botlink, it will be possible to do this sort of thing with 3rd-party add-ons. Don't be surprised if someone creates an add-on for an evil StarDock where you can purchase evil ships, and who knows what else.

Along the lines of "red" only ships, did yo put any thought into a "red" stardock. Could be the same as main but where you have to have a neg alignment in order to warp there. Same concept where you cannot drop figs, mines ect.... This would be a great place for Bane to hang out and even protected for young red players, but blue players regardless of exp could get attacked. Underground could be the federation here, maybe moves are about the time Cap Z got blown up. lol.

I don't plan to make that a standard part of the game, but I really hope to see someone implement an add-on for evil StarDock.

I just have not gotten into the botlink because of the tasks I have with TWX and the bot. Would be to much to split my time between the 2 so just throwing out ideas.

Don't worry about it. I expect Botlink will take awhile to really take off. I just want to give people the tools to be creative with the game because I won't always be around to add all of these cool new features. It'll be fun to come back in 5 years and see what people have done with it. I wish I'd have done this back in 2002 when I last seriously worked on the game.
