This is not an area to debate the pros and cons of proposed features. It is an area for people to suggest new features for either TW or TWGS. I will either add the proposed feature to my planned features list, or explain my reasons for passing on the feature at this time. Features added to the list can be voted on so I can gauge people's interest.

Ability for aliens to capture player ships !!!!!
I would like to see gold aliens capturing player ships and towing them back to their home sector. I also think we should have, like the Federation, a Grand Negus for the ferrengi who would be a supervillian.

It is possible for aliens to kill your ships, but I don't believe the mechanics are there for the to "capture and tow".

For scolfax and those with ideas like this ;
Please study the bot link commands and see what you think you can do with them , and maybe if there needs a few commands that you might need to do something .. ask for those ...
For what your asking , sure bot link has the potential to be made to do that.
One of the things I was looking at is to replace the Ferrengi OverLord. He use to be in the game back in the doors original. He flies a cool ship and photons bounce off him as well as your fighters.
He had special powers and I would like to bring him back.
The possibilities are endless , only limited to your imagination. I suggest others to study this new set of commands and try them out , maybe you can help to write some new features too.

Thanks, Scolfax. What you suggest would definitely be cool. But Vid's right, it doesn't really belong in the standard functionality. This is why I'm writing Botlink, because there are so many interesting ideas for features that I can't possibly add them all to the standard game. There is definitely a need today for 3rd party add-ons like we had back in the pre-v3 days.

I would also like to be able to change product names where ports could sell different products instead of ore/org/equ.

I hate that Botlink keeps being brought up. I will never be able to use it or write anything for it. That's why I'm asking for functionality Within the game for a gameop to simply use a toggle and put in a new name etc. Capturing players' ships is a basic function of the game, why cant gold aliens be capable of doing it?
Remember some of us aren't coders so Botlink is NOT the answer to everything.

And while it is true some of us dont code, some do and they will hopefully be releasing botlink scripts publically, probably with a specific edit to go with the script. There will be some requests that are more appropriate to core gameplay, but the reality is, since I'm not changing anything about the game, every good idea has to be added as an option, and that becomes a major barrier for gameops. Just too many options and too complex. It already is. So by going with a more modular approach, if you want to run a particular flavor of game, you'll be able to grab it and install it, including game and Gold edits, possibly a Botlink controller, and it can be far more customized than would be reasonable for the game to allow. There are a lot of things I've wanted to do with TW that I haven't been able to do because it would just bloat the game too much. This opens the door to so much more experimentation with the game.
Back in the v2 days, 3rd-party add-ons were common. Very few people could create their own wandering planets, black holes, custom aliens, etc, but those who could distributed them to the rest. I am always being asked to support those old add-ons. This is the v3 solution to that problem. 3rd party add-ons will finally be possible in modern TW.
