Getting a good start in a tourney is very important to you and your corp.

Here are some tips:
To do:
1. Get the corp password and ss channel a head of time.
2. Be prompt getting in the game.
3. Choose a random route to dock, there are basically 7 ways to dock, choose one at random.
4. If you are late getting into the game (even 5 minutes), sit at Terra, join the corp, THEN find out the best way to get to dock from your corpies.

NOT to do:
1. Wait until the last minute to set up your helper for the game.
2. Mow to dock after getting in late to the game. (you probably pod on mines)
3. Get pissed you are in a pod and CBY (your pod is valuable, your turns are valuable, you are valuable to your corpies.) Hide on a port until your corpies can come get you!

I should usually not go straight there, but go via a random sector?

Please excuse me, I have not ever played in a tournament, or even on a team, really.

If everyone starts in sector one, there's one straight path to SD. That may be heavily traveled and have figs and mines before you get to SD. There are 6 sectors around SD and one back-door. If you plot a course from terra to SD, put an avoid on the last sector before SD, and repeat until you have 7 warps in, then plot a course from SD to each one of those sectors until you find the one that's not directly next to it. That's the back door sector.

Express straight to the back door, drop some figs then proceed to SD.

That's one way to do it.

Just dont drop figs on your way if they are personal, one of your future corpies might be following.

The following script will log you in, choose a random path to dock. This should only be used if you are connecting to the server right at the start of the game. If you are even 5 minutes late, do not use it.

Use notepad to edit the "Game Settings" at the top of the script

Thank you for sharing the script. I read it and am ready to go back to bed! :) So, you edit that before the tournament opens, and it automates changing settings, joining the corporation, and getting to Stardock?

For the random route, does it create a random number and avoid that quantity of warps into StarDock?

Does entering the back door prevent people from firing photon missiles at you?

What would you do after five minutes?

Are there any newb questions that I am not asking? :)

Most games today do no allow photons to fire from Fed Space. If you're unsure of this, at the game menu type * to see details about what settings the sysop has chosen for the game.

Using the back door very early helps to prevent you from running into SD blockades.

A player can sit in an adjacent sector to the back door sector and fire a photon at you there, but in the first few minutes of the game, no one has the capabilities yet.

Sit still, do not move until you are on a corp and have help getting to a ship equipped with a scanner.

The first few minutes of a tournament are critical. #1, getting to SD, and #2 getting away from SD in one piece with a scanner so you can trade.

it chooses a random warp between 2 and 7. You shouldnt use it if you are even 5 mins late to the start.

Is that "FedSpace Photons=False"

In TEdit, excuse me, TWCC, it states "Starting with TWv3.11, a new rule was introduced to limit use of Photons by players who are protected in FedSpace. This setting is enforced for non-Gold games, but can be disabled for Gold games."

So, that only applies if you are FedSafe?

I imagine that a Type II TWarp would be useful.

Okay! I am embarrassed that it took me that long to understand. It randomly warps through one of the adjacent sectors to Terra, sectors two through seven.

Does sector two ever warp to sectors outside of FedSpace?

Actually I think we do have a misunderstanding. Stardock has 7 warps, 6 2-way plus a single 1 way. So they are numbered 1 - 7. The script chooses a random warp into Stardock but chooses randomly a warp between 2 and 6

If you are unsure of any Tedit setting, go ahead and bang your own test game and try them out.

Players who are going to try to sit at SD, are going to be fed safe, by design. Once their experience >1k, they cannot sit at SD without opening themselves up for attack. So, yes a player can be fed safe and if the settings allow, fire a photon from SD.

It's not difficult with today's scripts to remain fed safe. EP released his 2013 Haggle script just recently. With that you can pair port trade (ppt) the highest possible profit WITHOUT gaining experience points.

Would experience also depend on what fighters you encounter on your way to Stardock?

Most likely not in the first few minutes of the game. In today's game experience can be easily manipulated to suit your needs. If you have too much and you only need to cut it down by half, then you self-pod twice. If you gained a ton of experience attacking a high exp red, then you self-destruct before extern.

http://www.tw-cabal.com/formulas.html#Alignment Gains and Losses:

What's really important is your alignment and how a high alignment player can place personal defensive figs, that will swing the alignment of someone attacking them.

There's a lot of information on the Cabal Site.

http://www.tw-cabal.com/index.html

All good questions! Keep'em coming!
