Thank you for the invite, but I am afraid that I should pass at this time. Hopefully I will be able to participate in another one, later.

Okay, I was confused again. There was one game, years ago, when I hit another player's fighters, and it must have been my alignment that dropped astronomically, which I did not appreciate. I am not sure that one's alignment should be able to change that much for hitting fighters, but it is good to know that their experience wouldn't.

Yeah, once upon a time in the early days, we used to think the player who maxed experience at 4.5M was the winner. No so any more.

http://www.tw-cabal.com/formulas.html#Alignment Gains and Losses:

This page has a lot of experience and alignment formulas, and both can be manipulated to suit your needs. Attacking a like aligned player will drop your alignment. If theirs is much higher, it can turn you Red. If you find yourself in a "Red ISS", the only thing you can do is transport or have a corp mate bring a planet for you to land on, swap ships in the citadel.

This game easy enough to play, buy low, sell high, make a profit, buy better stuff... but it does have a lot of little things to learn. Probably why it's lasted 26 years!

Keep trying stuff, keep watching others and keep asking questions. We'll do our best to answer them.

I remember reading that you used to be able to corner the Feds using fighters and as long as you did not do certain things, you could keep your Starship, but that was changed a long time ago.

I did not see it on your link. How long would you have before a Fed destroyed your Starship?

Thank you very much for the information!

Yeah, a lot of things you are remembering are from the HVS MBBS game. There are still a few of those running today.

I haven't tested the limit to how long you can sit in a "Red ISS", I've even seen some players actually warp them home successfully then transport. But whenever I've tried, they podded me.

I don't think you can pin the Feds down any more either.

I had been messing around on the game on my server and upgraded ports enough to have experience and alignment of a few thousand each. I put myself in a Starship, made my alignment negative, and as far as I can tell, each time that you move, there is a chance that the Federals will hit your ship with 2.5x your maximum fighters. Sometimes, my ship was destroyed upon log-in, one time I warped twenty-five times before losing my ship, but several times it happened after about six movements.

I had set the ISS as its own escape pod, but that did not seem to work very well, so I cloned the Scout Marauder into an ISS, so most of the times that the Federals destroyed my ship, it was technically a Scout.

I just could not install escape pods. I stopped when my alignment reached zero.

Do you want me to set my alignment to -4,500,000 and write a script to log in, move around, and keep track of how many warps I make before I lose my ship?

How would we determine the chance of being podded from that?

Despite my profession (bookkeeping), I'm really not that interested in these details. Rather than risk getting podded by Feds, I opt for the safer route of transporting or hopping on a planet when this happens.

I have been known to pod on purpose if I were not within transport range, just so I'd have a density scanner to get home with.

Seems like you enjoy this sort of testing, so if I were you, I'd keep it more real and not mess with default pods. Try to simulate as closely as possible live game scenarios. I think that may result in more reliable data.

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to botlink going public is that we'll be able to script Feds to allow the evil ISS. Not that it would be very practical the way red is played these days, but it could be fun for solo games.

Well, I guess that whatever details have not yet been figured out about Tradewars have been because they did not matter. I was just hoping to find a way to contribute, even if it were boring, and put my OCD to some use.

Do you know anything about programming? TWX comes with it's own compiler and library of scripts. TWXide is a handy tool for coding with.

There's always a faster, cleaner way to "skin a cat" :) That should make your OCD happy.

I'm just a little OCD, I kept lots and lots of spreadsheets back in the day. :)
