Unread post New "Green" Server
I am setting up a "green" server tomarrow or friday. I'm hoping for a clean install and have been waiting till the bookcase pc's were able to not only stream Hi-Def but came down in price. I'm hoping that the bookshelf PC is able to stream/provide services on demand (Hold my Dvd's/BD in a external USB 3.0) without huge slowdowns.

My intention is Server first/movies secondary (I allready have external movie players Netflix/Hulu) I'm unsure if even with QOS policies that the smaller CPU will not 100% ping at the first opportunity and degrade server performance.

I wanted a low-wattage, low-sound, easily unattendable and light-wieght solution. I considered a lanman low wattage AM3 but it was priced outside my budget.

I pulled the trigger on:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6856119050
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145283

Comes with for free:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6856994002

Thought's?

While i have your attention has anyone had any luck with the new server (2.*) and Linux?

I have a test server running it under Ubuntu 10.10 but I only use it for testing. I have had unstable results running it under wine in the past. When something crashes running under wine, and normally requires a reboot. I know a few people have ran the server inside virtual box and had successful results. But since I have a couple of each at home I just use the WinXP Pro box for TWGS and linux for TeamSpeak.

Oh, man, I want to grab one of those to play with. That's pretty cool.

Those are the systems we use at work. Without wireless adapters. They are small, quiet, cool looking.

We had to upgrade memory as well, figure thats a stock thing. Looks like a nice buy though man. Buy a switch so you can just use one monitor.

I'm prolly going to rdc instead of the whole KVM thing.

I run the 2.x server on Linux Mint 11 for script development. I've never had any problems. I have the same setup on two different netbooks: an Asus 1015T with a AMD64 CPU and 1 GiB RAM, and a Acer with some dual-core 32-bit Intel CPU and 512 MiB.

Windows upgrades are so finnicky :<

I own 98/2003 Server Enterprise.other/XP Home (Upgrade)/Win7 Pro (Upgrade)

Progression is to install home with 98 then upgrade to 7. Unfortunatly allthough I've done this exact progression on my other machines it is hating on me. Might have to run TW2002 on XP, or spend a godzillion on a "clean install" version vs. upgrade :<

Good new's is the machine seems stable, passed memtest and short burn-in last night :-)
