Why is game time an hour and 17 minutes off from actual EST ?

Sorry, don't know. I'll fix is as soon as you log off. That is odd.

Me? I personally dont think I did...I was in the corp that has been accused of it... That does not mean I agree with this... Actually believe it's a dirty tactic... but I guess i'm guilty by association... which is unfortuanate...

I just want a good game.

But I have a question for everyone who joined, got killed, and CBYed.

Did you all just join this game on a whim? If you were planning to join, how come nobody showed any interest before when I was trying to organize teams?

wouldn't it be interesting if the sectors to and from Terra and Dock (whatever they be), were Fed-Space?

It's easy enough to edit sector 10 next to SD, and that's fine for noob games.

I think a lot of people have a misconception about my mission. My games are not noob friendly, but they are restrictive to certain aspects of script play.

I run mainly stock 5k universe games; planets and photons are on delays. Ferrengi have a Gold home world and start with at least 1M figs - they keep the grid down, and substitute for aggressive opponents.

Of course, no Ferrengi in the Cabin Fever tournament, but there are normal aliens, because those were present in the first B.O.T.E. and I've tried to match those settings as best I could with the research we did for this year's B.O.T.E.

I'm hoping that players will rediscover the game as it was in the '90's when it was at its most popular, and hone their skills so that they can learn how to compete in a tournament game, should they choose to play at that level. Or, they can feel comfortable playing the '90's style games that I offer without moving up to tournaments.

It's all about offering options to players. Once they are "warmed-up" and have the basics down again, they can move on to other servers to learn about more aggressive script play, should they choose to. Adapt or die is done, fun is back! ;)

The main thing I dislike is the tremendous advantage of being first. If people aren't lined up to log in when the game opens (e.g., because they have lives) then whoever happens to join first can do things like blockade SD or probe half the universe before anyone else even logs in. And it's not so much the amount of time between the first player joining and the pack that follows -- it's the number of turns played.

JP talked about adding more startup options for ships. I think it would help a lot if traders could start with scanners; then they'd at least know what they're facing. Starting with shields would also be good.

I wonder if that's something that Botlink could do... trigger on trader creation and edit their ship...

why bother with that? just add another option to TEdit, to allow people to enter the game from Dock.

Because a) JP has said he doesn't want to add any more options for things that could be done via Botlink, and b) that wouldn't solve the problem anyway, because then everyone would just be trapped at Dock.

Well, here's what happened today:

I found orion, but he was parked very far away from any class 0. I could only afford enough fighters to kill him if I used a Scout, and I didn't have enough turns to make enough runs. I decided to gamble on him not playing until I could finish the job. But I did hit him enough times to get commissioned.

On my last run, he LOGGED IN right after I launched a fighter wave. So I'm sitting there in a scout with 0 fighters. I mashed some random sector and hit express... whew.

Went back to SD, got in my other ship and sold the scout. I figured he'd expect me to do that, so I bought some cloaks and mashed QQYY from the Stardock prompt.

He killed me with a script.

I believe i started this game late ...a couple hours late.. I wasnt even going to play...I was suppose to play the other tournament but no one informed that the date changed... so there was no rush...

Yes if cruncher had even started the game with 500 figs... might have made it tougher to block the dock... That being said its a tournament...Sysop can set it up any way they want... if you cant handle it dont paly....

Man you whine alot... you had the nerve to attack me then whine here when i kill you...

Every game you get involved in you whine when things dont go your way... Sorry Mongoose you arent going to win them all !... Do you want me to fill your bank account today..so you can buy a ship ? I took my blockade down... I sit at dock unfedsafe.... Can I make this easier for you ? Seriously is this a tournament or a game for Mongoose to dictate how its played.... Stop Whining...

Point is, you should be able to start a couple DAYS late and still have a chance. That's why 250 turns is the default.

I consider 1K turns absolutely ridiculous, but I've resigned myself to playing 1K games since you hardly ever see anything lower. But no more. My experience in several 1K games has proved to me that such games are not worth playing. So 500 turns will now be my upper limit, and I'll be looking for 250s.

I am not playing just reading the facts.... sounds like he was just giving a brief detail of the morning events. Maybe the "script part" but he should have used a burst or macro :)

$bqqyy <-- from twx this would have been much faster and left you to play later :)
