So no comments in Any form on all those. Did we forget any thing or Any one??? Let me know what else we need to guard against in the Closed to the Public Private for members only Smack Forum

Huh, so your saying Racist remarks, commenting on handicapped, Religous slander, and making fun of the elderly are ok in smack because its a "closed to the public private for members only Smack Forum" but cussing isnt allowed? Anyone else find that odd. I think this forum needs to rethink its policies, and or Admin(s).

Actually, I would like to add that this *should* be the standard for *anyone* that either:

1. posts *around* the word filter, although the word filter here may need to be revisited;

2. comments in any forum referring to a race, color, ethnic background not tolerated, including in the Smack Forum.

This was my view on the entire forum. Whether cussing, etc is allowed, the reference to race, color, ethnic background should not. It's called racism, and in some places, comments as such can result in criminal charges. There is no gray area to that. If the admin choose to include the scope of religion, politics, etc, that is their decision.

I'm not too certain if this was a retaliatory post towards my comment, but I won't loose sleep over it. And as far as the other topic, I locked it.

Well maybe a little bit of sarcasm but i hope not retalitory. My point was made maybe? but regardless i think Kane is correct. I think we need to rethink our policies on the Smack Forum and take a more mainstream position. The current version relies on a Human to decide what he does or does not deem acceptable to its members. I think it may be time to put that power into the members own hands and let them decide. Im Updating the Rules at the Smack forum and when I'm done and JP approves them I will Post them and Reinstate Kanes ability to post in the Smack forum.

Personally I hope JP grows a pair and take notice that people are tired of scrolling through post after post of childish name calling from one corp to another. Smack imo should be more about a certain game podding, taking a base, schooling someone and so on ...... name calling or just being degrading is doing one thing, DRIVING people away. I have seen several people in the last year and after a few posts said they would never return just based on the opinions that people post and how they act on the forum. So before JP makes a decision I hope he understands his client base is dwindling so maybe it is time to figure what is wrong and make an attempt to fix it.

Bah.. I think smack is the perfect place to put taunting, over-the-top degradation of your enemies. If your tender sensibilities can't handle a few four letter words, heck, even a lot of four letter words, just don't go there!! There isn't anything posted in smack that a player can't do without. Just don't go the that section of the forum.

It seems like some people lose sight of the fact that this is a game forum. Kidding your buddies and rubbing their mistakes in their faces is elementary...in the sense that elementary school kids can do it far better than us adults. This forum has an outstanding balance of intelligent, civil discourse; Open discussion, Script forums and heated, passionate ranting...Smack. Something for everyone!!

As to the day-to-day running of this little sandbox, I'm sure JP is glad to have someone running interference who has a touch of class.

Would it really make the game better to have a watered down, politically correct forum where people couldn't speak their minds without fear of Big-Brother-Mod coming in and altering their posts, or telling them what they should be thinking? What kind of players are you trying to appeal to anyway?

In case the sarcasm is lost in translation, I'm downright amused at the naive:

If at all possible, can we keep my "pair" out of this? ;)

But seriously, I feel very strongly that there needs to be civility in the public areas. I don't want visitors assaulted with some of the things that are said in the Smack area. And that's what we have. But in the Smack area, I think it's reasonable to let consenting adults decide whether or not they want to expose themselves to the colorful posts that may appear there from time to time.

And the dwindling user count has more to do with a declining interest in the game than in the atmosphere of the forum, I think. I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do about that.

I never have nor will complain about 4 letter words, as a matter of fact I use them quite regularly. :o My complaint was with the Mod and his inability to have a set of rules across the SMACK section. If 1 player can get away with it then all should be able to have the same freedom. It looks like instead of enforcing the rules it was easier to banish them and let it go into free reign. That is perfectly fine with me at least everyone will have the same rights. Since it will remain I will just opt out and not post in that area. I really think we should be able to block Admins/Mods if they want my attention they have the ability to send a PM or use IM/Mail to get a hold me.

I'm all for that, at least.

I have no problem with the Smack forum because I never visit it. An inherent problem may be that the people who want to smack talk are the same people who are most likely to whine. You need a disclaimer for each visit to Smack that says, "I understand that my feelings and sensibilities may be hurt by visiting this forum, and that others may insult and mistreat me here, but I agree not to whine about it."

You're still working under the assumption that life is fair, and that this forum is a democracy. It is not,
it's an empire. If the guy running the smack section doesn't like you, he can do whatever he wants.
You have basically two choices: 1) Don't go to the smack section, 2) Accept it.

T0yman wrote:

It's only happening because the people that ran that sub-forum aren't ticked off anymore. So, they're
graciously allowing ppl back in. Don't worry, it won't last long. Sooner or later, someone always gets
banned for something.

All this stuff travels in cycles. This has got to be the 8th or 9th one for me. At this point I just grab
the popcorn and enjoy the show.

Yeh well, you don't run the site. On your site, you can enable that feature. On here, they don't want
it that way. Given that it could affect forum announcements, it's an understandable limitation.

Sing you quoted all but the most important one

"Since it will remain I will just opt out and not post in that area."

Have a good day!

I think those that added their "opinion" have missed the point here. This issue was not to have/not have Smack Talk, the issue was not about whether smack should be moderated. The issue is that everyone must be treated equally across the board, whether in Open Discussion, or in Smack. If you expect one person to follow a set of rules, then you have to expect from all. In other words, for simpler terms, no double-standards.

This topic is now locked.
