I keep seeing the word "Official" being used to describe a tournament or a game. What makes a game / tournament "Official"?

I am not sure that just because you add the word "Official" to something that it makes it anymore "Official" than without. If players show up and all are welcome does it make a difference to the rest of the community since all parties had the opportunity to play. Or is the word being used by a group that did not play and trying to take away from another groups win?

Or is the only "Official" tournament one that is sponsored by the owner of the software? Therefore as far I know there are none. (I could be wrong)

Does adding a simple word to a game/tournament add any real value if all parties entered into the game knowing it is an all or nothing type game.

&
Stalemate, does not = WIN. It means all parties agrees there is no winner and there won't be, if anything you reload and they go again. You know like an Over Time. Are there any type of sporting tournaments or games that end in a stalemate (chess or checkers excluded)?

This might open an can of worms, I would prefer to civil discussion but not sure that will happen.

My Stance is "Official" is any game/tournament where anyone or everyone is invited to play. You elect not to play due to time constraints or version being used it does not take away from the players that put in the time and effort.

Stalemate - No such thing, either play to the end or quit. If you don't see a way to beat the other team submit and move on, it is only a game. Nothing life altering about playing Trade Wars.

ROFL, look at BOTE history, that game/edit has ended in stalemate "AlMOST" half the time over the years that its been played!!

V2 isnt even an actual release yet, which means it is still in testing, hint is why its called beta, in my eyes Krakken was kind enough to test bugs in the same game booinc was in or else if you want to call it "Offical" that means booinc used bugs (which is against server rules) in their advantage to beat krakken.

Second, NFL has ties, if no one scores in first over time quarter its a tie!! MMA I have seen split decision as well with boxing. I have seen CO-MVP's in everysports, they may not call it "stalemate" but it is what it is, a split desicion between the 2 of the best competing!! Basically you can call it what you want, stalemate, CO-, tie. But the thing is who cares what you think, being you were not on the other end of any of those adjectives!!!

Edit: BTW in the olympic, if a tie occurs for first ,2 gold medals are awarded and both counties get credit for receiving gold medals:]

Well in TW calling a stalemate a 'co-win' sounds a lot like tradehugs or mega-corping, depending. But thats just me. When I play, I play to win, not to settle for less. Thats one of the things SG taught me! In those two touneys we lost to Kraaken, we didn't quit until they killed us.

There can only be one!

This is NOT a smack talk forum Helix, so please keep your posts on topic and civil.

Now to answer Toyman's question.

When I use the word "Official", it's because I (Big D) am the sole Creator of said item or event.

Take the "Official" ICE Tourmament and edit for example. I and the sole creator of the original edit and the sole proprietor of the original tournament. So it's my privilage to call MY tournament and edit "Official". Anything else is just a spin off.

You do know that v1.03 was never out of beta? TW2002 v1.03 was the last release of the v1.xx beta before v2.xx

Ya meaning that V1.03 is the last release and it wasnt considered beta!!!! v2 is still beta no matter what version your on cause it is still being tested for bugs, til jp releases the final version.

I considered it beta. I never intended for it to be the last release for so long. Family issues and other factors pulled me away from it. But it was still beta. TW dev has been a long and ongoing process, and until I officially close out development on TWv3, it will be beta.

OK Big D, thanks I just been seeing a lot of others using the word for everything. I understand taking ownership of a tournament that a sole person created.

OK, on the gold for olympics. But I was referring more to what your initial response was Butch.

1 Super Bowl Winner, 1 World Series Winner, 1 College BCS Winner & 1 NCAA BB Champion. Plus if it ends in a tie their record is more like X-X-1 and not X.5-X. If a sport that may end in a tie it is based on set criteria that establishes a victor or tie on a set of rules, not both agreeing it might take to long. I am only looking for a rational discussion to prevent such things from possibly happening in the future. If we learn from it maybe we can prevent it from happening again.

Always taking everything personal, most only do that if they have something to hide. Oh and at least one of those BOTE's lasted around 1 year, not 2 months and decided to call it quits.

NOTE: No software is ever finished, some programmers just discontinue others are in a constant upgrade. There is always something to improve on.

Thats the only version we had to play for 10+years and jp leaving the community for many years family related or not, therefore considered final release! but if you want to go that route, and the orignal point was if you dont consider that V2 u guys played on a testing game, then you cheated krakken by exploited a bug, which sing already admitted he wrote your corps gridding script around it! Either or works for me:]

You could always have JP add a "toggle" that will pick a winner and prevent a tie, by the looks of all this V2 posts a "toggle" has been the answer to everything!! ROFL

Guess you missed the fact that in the olympics there have been Co-gold medal holds many times:] But guess iam comparing apples to oranges, same as you with the superbowl, world series,NCAA champ. rant!!

So you have nothing of value to add, thanks anyway.

Might want to reread the above. I agreed with you, but I guess for you that is never enough.
I used football after you (TheButcher) brought it into the conversation and then went back and edited in the Olympics.

The question is still open - If a tournament ends as a Stalemate is it really considered a win or just 2 teams not willing to put in the effort, so far we have only 2 people and one is a little biased.

I agreed we are compairing apples and oranges, this BOTE could have been ended if the edit and rules had been adjusted from the get go!! That and the fact that RP had a corrupt game data which keep getting people killed, me nor my corp didnt want to put anymore time in to a game with that kinda issues!!!! Really you cant even use this game as an example!!
