Post subject:  Using SWATH effectively

I registered SWATH and I'm having issues with auto-trading using the world trade script. When I set it to world trade it will look around a bit, find a port pair, and then jump back and forth between those two sectors without ever docking to trade. This rapidly depletes my turns and earns me no credits.

Why is it doing this? Do I have it configured wrong, or is it a bug, or what?

So far the only useful thing in it is the quick macro function. I can set macros for moving commodities between planets or colonization and set it to run the macro 10 or 20 times and this has made tedious stuff much easier.

I would really like it to effectively auto-trade though. Any help would be appreciated.

I have never had that problem with Swath. I prefer worldtrade from TWXProxy though. What version of swath are you running?

It's version 2.0 of SWATH.

I tried it again and it seemed to work okay the second time. I'm wondering if there was only one way out of these two sectors and it detected a ship in the way out. It seems to avoid going into sectors with ships unless you have it set "Do not avoid hostile sectors".

I wonder if it would work better if I had a holo scanner? Maybe it's smart enough to ignore alien traders and flee from ferrengi.

I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it while it's trading.

I wouldn't recommend going anywhere without a holo scanner. A lot of scripts won't work without one. You may also need a Zero Turn Map (ZTM) for some scripts to work properly.

FYI mostly gridders and bubble tools require ZTMs but cashing scripts don't.

That is true... World Trade should run fine without a ZTM. Not all gridders require a ZTM though. Also, scripts like Dock Shopper use ZTM data to plot a course to stardock.

Beware without ZTM world trade drops you through some one-ways.

I'm sure that there are a lot of scripts that might work with reduced functionality, or extensive computer coarse plotting on the fly. Most of us do our ZTMs early in the game to choose a home sector, and avoid script problems.
