Please give me input on how good you guys think this base set-up would be, and if it's over-kill or not.

a 3 sector bubble...ie.
1234 has 4 warps
2345 warps to 1234
3456 warps to 2345
4567 warps to 3456

so it's...
outside world --> 1234 --> 2345 --> 3456 --> 4567

now...
in all 4 sectors would be a xBB port, with a couple xSS ports outside, fully upgraded.

sector 3456 would have 1 oceanic, then 1 mountainous, then two volcanics
sector 4567 would have 2 oceanic, 1 mountainous, and 2 volcanics.

you would put all your money and stuff on the mountainous in sector 4567. And in each sector, the q-cannons would be gradually higher in percent as the planet number gets higher.

I know all this sounds confusing, and I'm sorry. But if you understand it, lol...please tell me what you think, if not, feel free to ask questions :)

Sometimes explaining TW concepts can get tricky. This is how I'd build it (assuming Max of 5 planets per sector):

4567(SBB) - (H)(H)(O)(L)(L) order not req'd
3456(SBB) - (H)(H)(O)(L)(L) order not req'd
2345(SBB) - empty
1234(SBS) - empty (but maybe a corp toll fighter)

Because your planets are in the end of the tunnel it'd be harder to find them by accident, and the ports in 2345 and 1234 are NOT a PPT trade pair. When the (L)s mature to level 4 citadels, line them up in 2345 by planet# and make an (O) for the 5th planet. Then fill the empty slots in 4567 and 3456 with more (L)s. When the (H)s mature to level 5 citadels I would jump them into the 4-way 1234 with a shielded (O) and refill the empty slots in the back with captured/invaded planets.

Personally, I'd have HHHHH/HHHHL in the two sectors- only reason you want L's is that they're first to be warpable, having more than one tends not to be that useful compared to H's which hold, and build, a lot more ore- making them better than L's defensively (and much better than O's) and about the same as O's financially.

I used to set up my bases similarly to how you describe.

But as you play against better players, you begin to value the H's even more, despite their long construction times.

Throw out the O, it is worthless compared to an H. Make only 4-5 L, and only 1 in any given area. make 5-10 H, and only 1 in any given area, and not the same area as the L's. You should end up with at least 1 L that survives, and at least a couple of H that survive.

Only then are you ready to think about setting up a defensive position in a bubble. If you start off in a 4 sector bubble with 10-15 planets, chances are very good that you will be found and invaded before your planets can defend themselves.

Once your planets are shielded, you want to put enough of them in your gate sector to kill everything your competition can send your way. if that means putting 20 planets in the same sector, do it. Just remember to move them out for extern so they don't collide.

I agree Cherokee! Completly. still get the occasional, "How can you keep so many planets in one sector?" Sometimes even, "You must be a cheating" useually from newbies. But that is how I would defend a base. Especially if not going to be around for a bit.

Personally I would trash the L's, true they upgrade fast but the few I ever take on invasion or another corpie has I strip them and blow them. Not worth the time or turns to me, I go for the Defensive and Money planets first, my bases dont get found that often and I always build more than 1 or 2 in case. Considering stock planet edits the H is best defensive and the O is about an even match with the H for money, maybe even a little better. I usually have all H's in the entry then 1 O in each of the other sectors along with the rest H's.

When I build a defense sector for my money, I find that I always get found sooner or later. In that case, I like to make it as hard as possible on opponents as I can by placing as many H's in AND around the bubble. More money and more effort for them is win-win, IMO. They have to spend more fighters for less benefit, by blowing aways everything that comes in. A great way to deter opponenets and slow them down is also to lay a ridiculous amount of sector figs in warps both leading and not leading to your bubble. Set them all to offensive so that the foe must spend tons of time getting more figs, and hopefully he will miscalculate and get himself podded along the way. This is best if you are actively under siege by an enemy. Just IMO, anyways.
