Someone recently asked me about losing experience to the Mafia. I figured that I would post my reply here too.

My tips page was wrong. It's 5 attempts, not 4. I have corrected this on my site.

The Underground is located at the Stardock. Press U from the Stardock menu. You will be prompted for a password. The password can be obtained from the Grimy Trader located in the Tavern at the Stardock. (T for Tavern, T for talk to grimy trader. Type UNDERGROUND or MAFIA at the prompt, and follow the prompts. type BYE to quit talking to the trader.)

The first three times you try to enter the underground with the wrong password, nothing much happens to you. The 4th time, you loose your creds, the 5th time you loose your creds and 1/2 your exp. the 6th time, you die.

The messages are always the same, so you know which attempt you are on, based on the message.

when you see the following message from the guard:
"ARGH !$#@$#!$#@$#!$#@", the guard screams!
You see stars as the Corelian punches your lights out!

you know that the NEXT time you try to get in and fail, you will loose exp.

If you see:
"You ain't long for this life stranger!"
For being stupid you LOSE XXX experience point(s).
A gang of thugs beat the tar out of you and rob you!

then you know the next time you try to get in and fail, you will die.

Wait, is it a taser? or is it a pistol? Those Corelians, always trying to combine stuff.

Okay Traitor, now can you please explain how to determine the number of spaces in the password when it appears to be blank. And write us a script that gets the password from Grimy and offers it at the Underground faster than someone can change it?

Heh, are you still bitter about that?

gettin the pw is easy. its in quotes, so take the whole thing(including quotes) into a txt file, and count out the spaces by hand
