when you destroy a port it creates a radiation hazard in that sector. then when you enter the sector it says you leave right away etc etc... my question is this: does the radiation hazard gradually disperse like a navhaz? and what will happen if you stay in the sector too long?

In The extended stats screen (* on entry) there will be a listing for radiation decay, it is changable so varries according to the edits.
I have never seen in the logs that radiation did anything to a ship until like 2 days ago, I saw an entry that a ship was destroyed by radiation. I did not have a chance to talk to that trader, so do not know how that ahppened.
However, I have spent long times in those sectors and not yet had anything bad happen to me.

the radiation does nothing (unless you try to port at it, which i do not suggest) but the nav haz created by blowing up a port (25%) acts just like nav haz. heh. radiation does disperse only on a different timeline than nav haz. (i think default is 14 days, but i could be wrong)
you can stay in a sector with radiation forever and it will do no damage to your ship. it might lower your sperm count, but other than that you are fine

Heh, you should try porting there... it'll make your skin glow quite nicely. Here's the excerpt:
Command [TL=00:00:00]:[985] (?=Help)? : P
<Port>
Docking...
One turn deducted, 65474 turns left.
Captain! Are you sure you want to port here? Yes
CAPTAIN! Now you've done it! Radiation levels are exceeding the
capacity of our shields. The mains have all shut down and we
can't get the trans warp drive to activate... This is it
Captain, we're all going to die!
Your Corporate FlagShip has been destroyed!

Just a note, the radiation lifetime is a cycle, not a strict "lifetime." That is, if the radiation lifetime is 14 days, radiation clears on day 14, day 28, etc. So if you blow up a port on day 27, the radiation will last 1 day. If you blow it up on day 15, it will last 13 days.

if you blow a port or a planet with a player on it, you gain the XP and Align as if you had podded them in space. i dont believe it was always like that, but it is now

Actually, it isn't exactly like you podded them in space. The % gained or loss is different from a ship to ship podding, last I remember.

I knew the forumlas, but hadn't tested in years, so I didn't post. With two like aligned players in mbbs mode, the swing is 50% of the podee's align ship2ship, 33% of the podee's align on a planet, and 100% of the podee's align on a port.
